WordPress.com adding posts to Portfolio pages … and theme background colour

    Hello,
I’ve got your theme up and running.

I can’t seem to find a way to assign my posts for portfolio items to the portfolio page I’ve created (My work) … could you send a screen shot of where to find this?

Also, I’ve selected your black and white palette from the theme options for background colours … the left sidebar has gone black with white next, nice! But the main content area is now black with black text, rather than white with black text.

Could you point me in the right direction for fixing these?

    Regards,

    Peter

    Hey Peter!

Thanks for getting in touch. For the Portfolio posts, are you clicking ‘Portfolio’ -> New post from your Dashboard? If so, you should see the option to select this template in the editor! If you don’t, I’d recommend trying to go back to the editor, and switching to wp_admin at the bottom for the previous dashboard, and that should work!

For the background, unfortunately the theme doesn’t have an option to have the sidebar and the main content have different backgrounds/colours. Sorry about that!

    Thanks Calvin,

in the WordPress.com dashboard I don’t get the Portfolio option. Is the portfolio feature just not supported on WordPress.com hosted blogs?

I managed to get the left sidebar to be black (with a white background main content area) by applying a black image background to the sidebar (the sidebar darkness property only applies to background images?). This now matches the appearance of your default demo site which does have different sidebar and content area background colour.

    Regards,

    Peter

    Hello Calvin,
    one more question …
Does Studio have a widgetized area on WordPress.com installs? I can’t seem to find it on Post or Pages. I’d love to be able to include our Instagram feed.

    Regards,

    Peter

    Hey Peter!

For the portfolio features, it looks like currently you have to activate the legacy WP_admin dashboard in order to see these options. Sorry about that! We’re looking into this to see what we need to do to get this functioning properly.
Once you are on the legacy wp_admin (activated at bottom of current dashboard) you’ll be able to follow these instructions to include this.

There are three steps to creating a Portfolio page.

    1. Create a page and choose “Portfolio” under “Template” in the right hand sidebar. The title and content of this page won’t show up as it will be populated by your posts once you add them.
    2. Create a new post or choose an existing one and head to its edit page. Head to the bottom of the right sidebar, and select which portfolio(s) to which you’d like to publish the post.
    3. Choose an image using WordPress’ Featured Image uploader. This image will be the page’s thumbnail. If you don’t set a featured image, Studio will simply use the first image in your post.

For the widgetized area, I’m not seeing this in our code at first glance, but I’ve asked our development team to clarify for me! I’ll get back to you here once I am sure :)

Sweet! Thanks Calvin … the portfolio system is showing up in the legacy (better) WordPress admin area!

Interested to hear if there is a widgetised area somewhere in the theme.

Thanks for a great theme and fast support.

    Regards,

    Peter

    Hey Peter!

Looks like the sidebar (on the right) of the posts page is the only widgetized area in this theme.

    All the best,
