    Hi there,

How can I access widgets for other templates than the front page template?

I have a ‘About page’ I want to show my picture and text side by side on that page. However, I can do that only when I select front page template for my about page and then select ‘text’ widget. But I do not want front page template for my about page because it is exclusively used for my home page. I do not want my about page look like a homepage. i want my picture to no take whole screen but just on the side next to the info about me.

I am not into development so I may not be able to work well with the code unless the instructions are very precise. Can you help me with this? Thanks

The blog I need help with is scientificwayoflife.com.

    Hi,

thank you for using our theme.

Widget areas are depending on the template you choose. If you want to have a sidebar on other pages like about page you’ll need to use default template and using the widget visibility you can show or hide widgets you want to apply on that page. You can read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility

    Hope this helps.

    All the best,
    Ana

Well, looks like I didn’t do it right the first time. When I select sidebar it shows the content on the side. However, I want the text widget to show on the main content on ‘about page’. It is not working like that. What would be the right way of getting the text widget on main area without using the front page template? Thanks.

    Hi,

unfortunately, it’s not possible to add widgets inside the about content area, widgets can be added just inside the sidebar area. The front page template is coded differently than the rest of the templates. Using default page template you can have widgets inside the sidebar area.

    Hope this helps.

    All the best,
    Ana

Hi Ana, Is there any way you can make some changes on the default page template to add widget? It would make the theme really versatile and your customers happy. Thanks.

    Hi,

unfortunately this is not possible on WordPress.com as it will change things for other users too. Default page template is separated in two columns, left is for the page content, what you add inside the editor and right for the sidebar, where you can add widgets.

    All the best,
    Ana
