Website Speed Issues
Hello – I just switched to the “Port” theme from “Baskerville 2” and am noticing a significant decrease in speed. It went from a 4s load time to 11s.
According to Google the issues have to do with the following:
– Browser caching
– server response time
– minify css
Has anyone else experienced this and can you recommend anything I can do to resolve it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
Your site loads instantly for me. And I just ran a speed test of your site on Pingdom.com, and it loads in 1.34s.
Perhaps try doing another test to see if you get a better speed result.
I see what you’re saying on Pingdom.com. But, even Pingdom shows that I get a grade of C from Google (which is where I ran my original test that said it took 11seconds).
Any idea why there is a discrepancy between these two reports?
Just clicked the link you sent for the Google text, and I’m seeing a score of Good 87/100.
I do notice that you banner image is quite large, over 500kb. Optimizing that and your other images should help quite a bit.
That’s strange – I’m seeing 68 on mobile, 83 on desktop.
I also tried this tool, which seems to combine the two. There’s something strange going on:
I ran the banner image through a compression tool to get it down to the size it is, but I can try again.
I was also thinking about installing a plug in. Do you have any suggestions considering this theme? WP said to avoid anything with caching, so I was thinking to try JH Optimize
I just reduced the size of both of my homepage images. It helped on desktop, but mobile barely budged.
There are several caching plugins available, but I can’t really recommend one over another. I’m afraid I don’t have any experience with JH Optimize.
