Two columns and side bar have disappeared

I purchased this premium theme awhile back, but haven’t used my blog in some time. It now only has one full width column for my posts instead of the two column that was the default before. My sidebar has also disappeared. I bought this theme because of the two column option for longer writing.
    Thanks for your help

The blog I need help with is thegodstop.wordpress.com.

    Hello!

Did you happen to sort this out already? I’m seeing two-column text and a sidebar.

    Hi,

It is working fine on my work computer which is Windows 7. Is there a known issue with the theme for Windows 8 – that’s what I have at home and that’s the one it shows one column on…

    Thank you

    Hi Kirsten!

Which browser are you using? We can take a look at that more specifically. Just note that the columns are only supported in browsers that have the capability to show columns. You may be using an incompatible browser.

I have the exact same issue (sidebar gone and no two-column option anymore), which I already brought up on another forum because the issue occurred after I recently purchased the custom design upgrade.

I use Safari and my site is http://www.nojatuolihaahuilija.wordpress.com

I was given the same answer. I had also noticed a change in post width and photo alignment. I’m now also having problems with placing photos in posts. The only thing I had done with the design upgrade was to change the background color and the fonts. I was told to adjust the size of the font, but that didn’t make any difference.

Now I’m starting to think I made a mistake getting the design upgrade. Originally I chose Duet partially because of the two-column option, but ended up not using it because it wasn’t possible to have full-width photos and two columns in the same post.
Now I wonder whether getting a refund for the upgrade is the solution or whether I have to consider getting another theme.

    Hi there!

I might recommend resetting the changes that you made in the Custom Design upgrade and start again. Sometimes, the strangest thing can cause issues with a layout or design. It’s hard to really say what the problem could be, but that might be a good place to start.

I returned everything I had changed back to default. I also made sure the sidebar is enabled. It made no difference with the computer and browser I use, but I checked it on another computer and there the right sidebar with all the widgets was exactly where it should be. The browser window was only a little bit bigger.

What annoys me most about this is that when the sidebar is not there and all the widgets show on the footer they’re there vertically AND the about.me bio photo is a lot bigger than in the sidebar. Also, there would be more than enough space for the sidebar! Now I see really wide margins instead. Is there anything I can do about that? About changing those dimensions, that is.

Another thing: So now there’s no longer the possibility to set columns separately for each post, on or off? I only see a menu option for turning columns on or off for ALL the posts. And you mentioned in your earlier reply that not all browsers support columns. So if I decided to use the two columns and somebody used a browser which doesn’t support them the position and size of the photos would be all messed up?

    Hi there!

Are you using Internet Explorer 8 as your browser by chance? If not, what browser are you using?

If you go into Appearance > Theme Options > Post > Layout, is Columns set to “Columns On”?

Columns were set to “off” despite the fact that I had not changed that setting. I’ve always just checked the box to disable them on individual posts and suddenly that box wasn’t there anymore, which is why I thought there had been some big change in the settings. Sorry about the confusion!

But back to my main question: So there is nothing I can do to prevent the right sidebar widgets from being moved to the footer and being displayed there vertically, the bio photo far bigger than on the sidebar?

Oh good! I’m glad we have one issue fixed.

So there is nothing I can do to prevent the right sidebar widgets from being moved to the footer and being displayed there vertically, the bio photo far bigger than on the sidebar?

Where are you experiencing this? I’m seeing them in the right sidebar on the home page.

I know that the layout can vary depending on the browser and device, but what I don’t understand is why, with my computer using Safari and the single-column layout, the column is wider and everything on the right sidebar becomes bigger and is moved to the footer. There would be plenty of room for the widgets to stay on the right sidebar!

I changed to two columns to see how it would look like then. The width was reduced and the right sidebar was right there – the margins being the same width as with the one-column layout. All the more reason for me to wonder why the right sidebar doesn’t stay in place with the one-column layout even when there’s plenty of room for it.

I would love to use the two-column style if I could combine it with full-size photos. That (and this right sidebar issue) is pretty much my only issue with Duet, I really like its look and styling options.

    Hi there!

I’ve reviewed your website and it is displaying as intended. It’s possible you’re viewing your website at a width very close to a breakpoint—these are coded points when the design changes.

You cannot, unfortunately, tweak this design without making modifications to your theme’s code.

Sorry this isn’t the answer you’re hoping to hear :(
