Trouble installing one click demo

    Hi there,

    I recently bought the Olsen theme to use with my WordPress.com website.

    From my understanding it supports one click demo but I don’t seem able to do this. I keep getting a message saying I need to upgrade to a ‘Business’ WordPress plan to access plugins, including one click install.

    Are you able to help me install the look of Olsen’s demo for my own website please?

    Also, can you clarify if the one click install automatically copies the template and layout of Olsen’s demo website to my own & if I then go about replacing the demo content & images with my own? Any tips for replicating the appearance of Olsen’s demo content would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    The blog I need help with is casacommunications.com.au.

    Hi there,
    This is the Olsen for WordPress.com support forum. Please contact us at support[at]cssigniter.com for more help on the Olsen theme, which is a totally different theme from the equivalent WordPress.com one.

    In general WordPress.com will not permit installing plugins in the Plan you are currently in.

    Best Regards

    Hi there,
    Thanks for your reply. I think I’m in the right place as I bought the Olsen theme to use with my WordPress.com website. Please let me know if this is not the case.
    Thank you for clarifying that about the plugins – all noted.
    Can you please assist me in creating the ‘About Me’ box in the sidebar widget?
    I’ve gone to Customise > Widgets > Sidebar > Add a Widget. However, no Theme widgets appear in the list of those available.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, is it possible to add a Houzz icon to the social media menu please?
    And finally, can you please guide me through how to display testimonials on the home page?
    Many thanks!

    Hi there,
    Again this is not the correct support forum for the version of Olsen you are using.

    Please contact support[at]cssigniter.com for more help on this.

    Hi there,
    Thanks for your help so far.
    Can you please let me know if it’s possible to add a Houzz icon to the social media menus? The profile I want to link to on Houzz is: https://www.houzz.com.au/pro/juliafairley
    Thank you!

    Hi again,
    One more question for you: I keep having trouble with an ‘About’ page on my site.

    I would have included a general ‘About’ page in the main menu and would like two different pages nestled under the main ‘About’ page, like this:

    About
    >About [name]
    >About [company name]

    The ‘About’ page with my name seems to be working. Thought ‘About’ page for my company is shaded in red when I open the customiser and has (Invalid) next to it in brackets.

    If you could guide me through fixing this I would be really grateful. Thank you!

    Hi there,
    Currently Houzz is not supported natively.Have a look here on which are supported https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/social-links-menu/

    You can use a trick to add it though. Go ahead and add a different social menu item. And add

    #menu-item-XX:before {
        content: '';
        background: url(https://st.hzcdn.com/res/2824/en-AU/pic/houzz_logo.svg);
        width: 100%;
        height: 22px;
        position: absolute;
        display: block;
        background-size: contain;
        z-index: 999;
        background-color: #fff;
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
    }

    where XX is your menu item ID.
    Getting the menu ID is tricky, but I can help you identify it.

    Hi there,

    I’m still having difficulty adding the Houzz logo and am a bit confused.

    Here’s a webpage from Houzz with buttons and logos, with code that might help:

    https://www.houzz.com.au/buttonsAndBadges

    Here’s the text for the logo I want (the little ‘h’ symbol) from the webpage:

    <table style=”width: 20px;” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″><tr><td>Julia Fairley in Sydney, NSW, AU on Houzz</td></tr></table>

    Can you please help me identify Houzz’s menu item ID? I am quite confused by the entire process involved with adding this logo to my site’s social menu.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,
    try this

    #menu-item-131:before {
        content: '';
        background: url(https://st.hzcdn.com/res/2824/en-AU/pic/houzz_logo.svg);
        width: 100%;
        height: 22px;
        position: absolute;
        display: block;
        background-size: contain;
        z-index: -1;
        background-color: #fff;
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
    }
    #menu-item-131 .icon-chain{
     width:100px;
        opacity:0;
    }

    in your custom CSS box

    Thanks for that,

    I’m not sure if I’m entering the code correctly or not, though would you mind having a look please as it’s still not working? You should still have access.

    The Houzz logo I need does not include the word ‘Houzz’; it’s just a small ‘h’ symbol, which you should be able to access at this link:

    <table style=”width: 20px;” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″><tr><td>Julia Fairley in Sydney, NSW, AU on Houzz</td></tr></table>

    Thank you, hope this helps!

    Hi there,
    there is not native Houzz logo like the one you described, but you can replace

    https://st.hzcdn.com/res/2824/en-AU/pic/houzz_logo.svg

    in my suggestion with any logo you want.

    Hi again,

    I’ve tried this so many times and in different ways, though I’m afraid I still don’t know how to do this.

    Can you please give me some instructions that take me through each step from the very beginning? For example, where do I go from here? I’m not even sure where I’m supposed to paste the code you have kindly supplied.

    Customise > Menus > Social menu > …where do I go from here? And what code do I type into which boxes?

    Please take me through each individual step from the absolute basics. You’re also welcome to have a look yourself; you should still have access.

    Thank you!

    Hi there,
    have a look here https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/ on using custom css.
    Beware if you are not in the correct plan, custom css is not allowed.

    #133026

    Thank you,

    That explains a lot now! I’m currently on a different plan, so that makes sense.

    #133027

    Hi again, thanks for your help.

    1. Can you please tell me if there is a way to display client testimonials on the home page (or another page)?

    2. Also, I currently have two webpages (‘About me’ and ‘About company’) in the dropdown menu below the ‘About’ page in my main menu. At the moment, you can click onto the general ‘About’ page, which is blank, though I don’t want people to be able to do this. I only want them to be able to click on the ‘About me’ and ‘About company’ webpages in the dropdown menu. Is this possible on the personal plan please?

    3. And finally, I would like to add multiple, individual thumbnail images of URLs to my ‘Portfolio’ page to appear like the tiled images in the demo’s ‘Lookbook’ page. Is it possible to do this, please?

    Many thanks.

    Hi there,
    1. I am afraid there is no way you can do that, unless you create a simple text widget writing your testimonial inside.
    2. Of course your will need to create a blank menu item. Check this https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ under “How do I create an un-clickable parent tab for my sub-menu”
    3. Currently it is not possible to add gallery images with links.
    Let me know if I can help out more.

    #133155

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Is it possible to create a text widget (with testimonials written inside to display on my home page) with a Personal plan or will I need to upgrade? If it is possible, I’d really appreciate you guiding me through the process.

    2. Thank you – that worked a charm!

    3. I’ve embedded lots of links on my Portfolio page instead, which is doing the trick nicely. If you look on my Portfolio page, however, the second line of images (which is broken up into two columns below the larger image at the very top of the page) are not in line with each other horizontally. I’ve tried altering the code and inserting line breaks though it’s not working (because the title of the right-hand image is only one line long, whereas the title of the left-hand image is flows over two lines).

    4. Also, is it possible to reduce the size of the white rectangular box that accompanies the featured images on the Home page slider please? I just want to make it a little bit smaller.

    Many thanks, this is such an elegant theme!

    Hi there,
    1.you can only add a text widget in your blog sidebar using the testimonial shortcode (https://en.support.wordpress.com/testimonials/).
    2. You are welcome
    3. You will need to add line break using this
    <br />
    HTML code (from your Text tab in the Editor)
    4. Again this needs custom css which you currently cannot use.
    Let me know if this works, or if I can help out more.

    #133182

    Thanks for all your help,

    I have some newly numbered queries, which will hopefully be the last!

    1. I’ve upgraded to the Premium plan to access CSS and have tried playing around with adding <br /> though the two smaller images on the second row on my Portfolio page are still at different heights. Would you mind taking a look when you have a moment please?

    2. I’ve also reduced the size of the rectangular box in the featured slider and adjusted the opacity. Though is there a way for the edges of the box to subtly fade out instead of the box ending in that sharp line?

    3. Is there a way to get the ‘Continue Reading’ button below each excerpt on my Blog page please and can I wrap blog text around images?

    4. Can I align or centre text in the Sidebar Widget, please?

    5. I’m afraid our little ‘h’ Houzz logo is still misbehaving, even though I’ve tried that code. Would you mind taking a peek please and letting me know if I’m doing something wrong?

    Many, many thanks!
