Transferring current site to the Adventure theme

This could be a slightly dumb question from an amateur, but I am looking to give my site a face lift using the Adventure theme (using the same format as the demo).
I was hoping I could do a lot of the changes using the ‘Try & Customize’ before I Activate, rather than take the site down for a period of time but when I do changes such as setting up the homepage it won’t show the updates? I can change the logo etc, but for more complex changes it won’t work. I can’t even get the About Me section to show on the homepage, although I have followed the correct process and it should be show.
Has anyone else experienced this, or do I have to activate the theme in order to update the site? I am a Premium user.

    Thanks, Dylan.

The blog I need help with is shootfromthetrip.com.

    Hey Dylan,

Sorry for the delayed response. The “Try & Customize” feature is really only designed to give pre-purchase users a general idea of how the theme works, and may not reflect the changes you’re trying to make on your site exactly. There may be a setting within your WordPress customizer that allows you to keep changes to your site private until you’re ready to make the site live, but this is a general WordPress question and since my knowledge is primarily with the theme itself, I’m going to tag a WordPress.com team member to see how you can make changes to your site and keep it hidden until you’re ready. Thanks!

    Hi Dylan,

The Customizer, the part of WordPress you’re working in to make and preview changes, does allow you to make a number of changes before you activate a new theme. But it doesn’t really have the capability to stage all the changes you might be needing.

You can however, after switching themes, save changes in the Customizer as drafts or schedule them to go live at a certain time. You can find out more about these features in this support documentation.

Also, as a Premium plan customer, you can get live chat support, available here if you want more immediate responses to your questions.

Thank you, @davidalankennedy. I will mark this one “resolved”.
