Title color is different in demo

Hi, Carmela folks! I love your theme, but the template demo is different than what I bought: the blog title in the demo is white, but when I purchased the theme, the title showed up in a grey-green color. I’ve had a techie friend try to change the CSS–seems she can preview it in white, but not change it.

Since I paid for the theme, can I please get the title color you showed? (My header image makes the letters disappear in places.)

My blog is WasteManagementTheBlog.wordpress.com, but it’s still private. LMK if you need me to publish it momentarily. I have screenshots of the theme demo, and what I ended up with, but I don’t see how to attach them here.

    thanks!!!
    Deb

The blog I need help with is wastemanagementtheblog.wordpress.com.

    Hello Deb,
Thank you for writing and using Carmela.

Yes it’s true! Normal behaviour is gray-green color when no image has been selected as custom header and white color when image is selected. But with the last update something missed and when you select an image, the gray-green color is still showed.

We have just fixed them and send the update to WordPress. It will be fixed in all sites using Carmela automatically in a few days. Meanwhile, you can add the following CSS to show the title in white color on your site:

    .site-title, .site-description {
        color: #ffffff !important;
    }

Thank you a lot for noticing this issue.

    Thank you again!

Thank you so much, Ricardo! I really appreciate the quick response.

I’ll wait a few days for the update (I purchased the SiloCreativo theme, but I don’t have the premium WordPress membership–the only way I could change the CSS myself). If you notice before I do that WordPress has updated it, let me know. :-)

    Thanks again!

I am back with one more Carmela issue! :-)

My blog is now live (wastemanagementtheblog.wordpress.com), but when I view it on my iPhone, the Header Image is zoomed WAAAAAY in (so nothing appears). It happens when I view the Carmela demo as well. The preview in WordPress looks totally normal, though.

I “chatted” with a Happiness Engineer at WordPress, and he said it’s an issue with the template, and that their preview is wrong.

Perhaps this got messed up when you guys fixed the type color? Anyway, the chat w/WordPress follows, if you need it.

    Thanks!!
    Deb
→Howdy. My header image of my blog is not appearing on my iPhone.
Joe: Hi, let me take a look…
    →Hello! wastemanagementtheblog.wordpress.com
→It’s there in the preview on the admin page, when I click on the icons at the bottom of the screen…but not when I look at the site itself on my phone.
Joe: OK, let me investigate a bit…
→(The preview is on my Mac)
    →K
Joe: I see what you mean, the header photo is zoomed way in on the actual mobile display.
→Ah. Is there a way to correct that?
Joe: In this case it looks like was designed this way on purpose, and our ‘preview’ screen is wrong.
    →Huh.
Joe: If you look at the example site for this theme on an iPhone, it behaves exactly the same way as your site: https://carmelademo.wordpress.com/
    →Indeed it does.
→I know the carmela designers recently changed the font color of the title over the header photo (which was wrong before). I wonder if it got messed up then.
→I can try contacting them again through their wordpress forum. They were good at responding before. That’s all we can do, I assume?
Joe: Yep, you’ve got it! :-)

    Hello Deb,
    Thank you for writing!

Yes, is a well-known issue on iOS devices (you can read more at http://caniuse.com/#feat=background-img-opts > Known issues (4) tab)

So to fix this we have upload a new version that removes the background-attachment: fixed; in all movile devices.

We will write when the update is approved.

    Thank you again!

Thank you! BUT…there’s still another big problem.

Sorry, Ricardo! What I’m seeing on my iPhone now is not formatted for the device. Carmela is supposed to be a “responsive theme,” ready for mobile devices. But now on my iPhone (and others’) it’s the same format as the desktop–i.e., tiny picture, tiny font. (I designed my cover art specifically for responsive formatting. :-)

If you look at my other WordPress site, the mobile feature is working fine: https://debsbrain.wordpress.com/

    Here’s the Carmela description: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/carmela/

I guess this is your next project! But it’s super important to me that the site looks modern and readable on mobile devices, and a big part of why I bought the theme. Thank you, thank you for your help!!

    Hello Deb,
    Thanks for answering!

We have checked your website and the demo site http://carmelademo.wordpress.com/ on some mobile devices and both is working the same way (we have not noticed differences).

Anyway we will write any comments down to improve the theme in future versions.

    Thank you again!

Hi, Ricardo! Thank you for being so responsive. Unfortunately, my site is not. :-(

I’m looking at both the Carmela demo and my blog (https://wastemanagementtheblog.wordpress.com/) on my iPhone, and they are different. You can especially see it in the layout of the footer–in the demo, it’s stacked vertically, and on my iPhone, it’s still in a horizontal layout; the posts are tiny print; the cover art isn’t cropped, etc.

(Perhaps you thought I was referring to DebsBrain.com, but that was just to show you that THAT site’s responsiveness WAS working. :-)

Again, I hope you can help. I’ve looked at it on 2 iPhones–mine has iOS9.1, and other one has iOS 8.3. Neither show a responsive site.

    Let me know–THANKS!!
    Deb

    Hello Deb,
    Thanks for answering!
If you can see the demo version in the correct way in your iPhone, then the differences have to be in your site configuration, because both sites use the same styles for responsive. (they load the same CSS file)
We have checked and it is how it show for us:
    http://imagizer.imageshack.com/img903/1923/h2C9nN.jpg

So let’s debug that all configuration is ok:

    1. First ensure that mobile option is NOT enabled: wp-admin > Appearance > Mobile.
Enable mobile theme? No. Update and check.
Sometimes this could cause that WordPress add extra CSS…Carmela doesn’t need because it is already deemed to be mobile-friendly.

    2. Sometimes browser save some CSS in their cache. If previous step doesn’t change anything, let’s try to force refresh and clean your cache:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#force-refresh

    3. Ensure that your browser are not getting the desktop version:
    http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-request-desktop-site-in-ios-9-safari-on-iphone-ipad/

    4. If this doesn’t work, please, send us a screenshot with your site on your device.

    Thank you again!

Hi, Ricardo, my new friend! Sorry for the delay–I’ve been traveling over Christmas.

    So here’s what I can tell/show you:

    1. The mobile option on my Admin page is not enabled.
    2. Apple+R on my Mac didn’t affect how my site is appearing on my iPhone.
    3. If I “Request Desktop Site” to view it on my iPhone, it looks the same as when I don’t. I’ve also looked at it on 3 other iPhones–all the same.

BTW, on my desktop, I’m using Chrome, but the iPhone’s browser is Safari.

Here is a screenshot of my iPhone:
    file:///Users/Deb/Downloads/IMG_7237.PNG
(It appears like this on the 3 other iPhones I’ve checked.)

Here’s what it’s supposed to look like, according to the customization preview on my Mac desktop:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/Carmela%20screenshot.png

Here’s what it’s supposed to look like when I scroll down:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/Carmela%20demo%20iPhone%20image.png

Here’s that same part in the image you sent me:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/Creative%20Silo%20iPhone%20JPG.png
(Note the funky line breaks next to the photo.)

Here’s my homepage on my Mac desktop:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/Screen%20Shot%20WMTB%20home.png
(Shouldn’t I be getting a menu bar icon on the desktop like it appears the other devices, rather than the whole menu?)

Here is a screenshot from an iPad, which is exactly what’s appearing on my iPhone:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/iPad%20screenshot%201.PNG

Here’s when you scroll down on the iPad:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/iPad%20screenshot%202.PNG

Here’s the Preview version of the iPad–it’s exactly the same as what I’m seeing on my iPhone:
    file:///Users/Deb/Desktop/Carmela%20iPad%20demo.png

(And see how the tagline is thicker in the Preview and on the desktop screenshot than it is in reality on the iPhone and iPad? That is another issue. Sorry!)

The only thing that seems right in the “responsive” versions is that the menu bar icon appears at the top, rather than the entire itemized menu, which happens on my desktop…even though I just want the icon.

(And as I mentioned before, the responsive version of DebsBrain.wordpress.com is working perfectly.)

    Help, Ricardo!! :-)

    Hello Deb!
Happy new year for you too and sorry for delay. We have been working and testing to find why the mobile resolution doesn’t show properly.

We have testing using Iphone 6 and before (5/4) and all works fine.
    This real:
    http://imagizer.imageshack.com/img903/7034/KsYotz.jpg
And this from a testing tool:
    https://www.browserstack.com/screenshots/40d096536b2c37897133239ba8216f86633c3374/ios_iPhone-6_8.3_portrait.jpg

It’s true that the preview screenshot in the Customizer doesn’t match with the final version, but this tool is only for test purpose (each devices has its own pixels and dimensions: http://viewportsizes.com/)

But, we have found some interesting things with the iPhone6 Plus. We haven’t been able to test in this device yet, but it seem taht the resolution is very high (1080px of widht) that match with the image that you sent us: http://www.paintcodeapp.com/news/ultimate-guide-to-iphone-resolutions

Are your images from Iphone 6 plus?
    Let us know.

Hi, Ricardo! Thanks for all your hard work. I’ve been hard at work this week as well, so I know how it is!

It sounds like we may be getting closer, but I don’t have the iPhone 6 Plus, just the regular iPhone 6. I didn’t look at my blog on any of the big iPhones. I do have a different iOS than what’s on your spec sheet, though. I’m using iOS 9.1, and that spec sheet says iOS 8. Could that be the issue?

I’m going to update to iOS 9.2 now–if that changes anything, I’ll let you know!

    Hi Deb,

What a strange issue! Please, let us know if updating iOS solves the problem.
Meanwhile, could you send us a screenshot from your iphone while you are logged in? This will help us to see if the WordPress Admin toolbar is showing the normal bar or the mobile bar, in order to determinate where is the issue.

Well, that is interesting! I’ll have to upload the screenshot later, but when I view it on my iPhone after logging in as the administrator through WordPress.com, it appears in the mobile format. No log in, no mobile view.
