The appeal/importance of having a footer
Hi, Theme Foundry staff. I recently switched the theme for my blog from “Elemin” to “Duet.” I consider them to be two of the most visually appealing themes available to WP bloggers. Duet has the edge because of the two column format…I love this option and use it often. That being said, I miss having the footer as I use the full screen version. For now, I have to put all my widgets in a separate page on the top menu, and frankly, I think it looks a little less than perfect. With the popularity of integrating twitter and FB on blogs, I think it’s important to have those functions front and center. What do you think? Here is my blog elisaruland.com if you’d like to take a look and maybe imagine it with a well organized footer. Thanks for listening. I look forward to perhaps the footer option being added to the beautiful Duet theme! Elisa Ruland
The blog I need help with is elisaruland.com.
I’ve moved this to the Duet forum category since your issue is theme-specific. The theme developer should chime in soon. Thanks!
Your website looks great—nice work!
Thanks for your feedback and your thoughts.
Duet is specifically designed to show off your content. We believe by adding in a footer, or other widget area, we’d be taking away from this focus. Because of this, we don’t have any plans to add a widgetized footer area.
Sorry this isn’t what you’re hoping to hear :(
Hi Scott, thank you for the consideration. I’ll close by saying that my motivation in suggesting a footer was my use of the side bar in my original blog layout. I found it confusing to the eye because of the column lines and the sidebar design seemed to make the entire page look off kilter. A footer under the full page layout would be a cleaner look than the sidebar, two column format. But you are the designer-in-chief, and I respect that. I guess I will continue my quest for the theme that works best for my vision. Love Duet, though. Thanks again for your time!
You’re welcome, Elisa! I appreciate your feedback.
Please google the idiom “can’t see the forest for the trees.” I think it applies here.
Hello again, Elisa,
I don’t believe this to be the case here, but appreciate you sharing this with us.
On WordPress.com, templates files cannot be edited. If, though, you’re keen to add this footer and you’re willing to transfer to the self-hosted WordPress.org platform, you can make this customization.
I hope this helps!
