Tables not displaying correctly on mobile

Hi there,
For the website we have built, we have a portfolio of our projects with their title underneath. We have used a thumbnail image for each project and then text directly underneath (in the same cell) as the title.
We have used CSS code to create this as the theme’s default settings weren’t what we were looking for.
Our issue now is that the mobile display does not scale the text or images, so the table is rather distorted. I have tried to use media queries in custom css to override the table layout, with no luck so far.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated! Even if this means re-formatting so the page is not displayed as a table, we just need this to be polished when viewing from the mobile!
