Social Sharing buttons not displayed
We use Maxwell on a WordPress.com site with the Professional plan. In Configure > Sharing > Sharing Buttons we have a half-dozen of those buttons selected (Facebook, etc., as “Icon & Text”). We also have the “Reblog” and “Like” boxes ticked, as well as the options to “Show sharing buttons on” Posts, Pages, and the Front Page itself.
None of these items show up on our site pages. I can see there is a ThemeZee > Social Sharing Documentation page but the additional requirements about extra plugin installation are disturbing… all we want is to do is show the social sharing buttons as provided & configurable by WordPress.com itself.
I don’t understand why these standard buttons wouldn’t be rendered in the theme: is there anything else we need to do besides the settings above?
The blog I need help with is watchers.ie.
Here is a screenshot of what our Sharing Buttons are supposed to look like, according to the Preview: https://i0.wp.com/watchersdotie.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/missing-buttons.jpg
We have just published another Post after updating the settings as above, and it now appears with the social sharing buttons. Therefore this shows that the buttons are indeed appearing in our theme.
Perhaps one of the forum users or theme maintainers would have an idea why this happened? If so we would really appreciate it. In the meantime it looks like the original question has been answered, though I’d like to leave this open a bit in hope of some ideas or an instructive documentation link.
Thanks for using Maxwell.
Please note that the documentation on themezee.com are only for the selfhosted WordPress.org version of theme and do not apply for WordPress.com. You can forget everything you have read there.
On the WordPress.com, Social Sharing is directly provided by the wp.com platform. It is not a feature of the theme.
You can find all relevant information about WordPress.com’s Social Sharing on https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/
I don’t know why the Social Sharing buttons do not appear on your older posts, I guess you might have to update them once.
