My site is very slow and I think it’s because of my images however I don’t know how to fix it. The site takes forever to load and once is does, when I try to scroll down, the screen turns white. I love this theme but if it’s going to be this slow no one will want to follow my blog because it’s so slow and freezes.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Ashley,

I reviewed your site performance, and you are right the issue is the images being used.

For a full analysis check this out:

The total size of your website is a 38 Megabyte download, that’s huge! The culprit is a number of the images you are using. You can view the list of files in the link I provided above, you have a handful of images that are ~5 Megabytes each and several that are over 1 Megabyte. For the web you really want to optimize images to be at the most ~200 Kilobytes. I also suggest using the .jpg format for images, unless the image contains transparency (looks like you are mostly using .jpgs so that’s good).

I would suggest optimizing all your images and re-uploading the files, I will guarantee that will speed your site up considerably. I use Photoshop to handle my image processing, but if you don’t have Photoshop there are plenty of other tools you can use, even online tools.

Check out this article for more information about optimizing images for your website:

And if you need an online tool, try SmushIt:

I hope this helps out, if you have any other questions feel free to shoot them my way :)

    Thanks,
    Caleb
