sidebar widget on homepage
I want to add a sidebar gallery (and other sidebar widgets) to my homepage but with the homepage content rather than the featured pages, in the same way as I can do this on other pages.
The theme obviously doesn’t allow this but is there any way around it (i.e. CSS code etc)
The blog I need help with is tsvantiques.co.uk.
Have you tried setting your homepage to the Default Page template the same as your about page would be? This should allow you to use the same sidebar widgets on your front page, without making use of the featured theme options.
Let me know if you’ve given this a try and it’s not working for you?
Hi Rebecca, yes I’ve tried all the options but it just leaves it as a wide page template (it’s a box ticked in the customised otherwise it uses a column layout to display featured pages.)
Be grateful for any advice you might have
I see, because the page is set as your ‘Front Page’ it’s automatically using the full width content area. I’m afraid this means it isn’t possible to have widgets on the sidebar of the Natural Theme for the front page. You can add these to the footer section, but it may be best to try and see if you can make use of what would be the Home Page Template with the featured content options. Is there a reason why you don’t want to use these features?
thanks for that.
The featured options don’t really work for what I want to do with the page – just literally want a very simple landing page with basic info. It’s fine for showing off product lines or when the site has a lot more information pages than we do but that’s not how our business works; so I don’t really need “features” as such, not at this stage anyway – maybe sometime in the future.
Really I wanted the gallery as a splash of colour and interest without embedding photos into the text. But that’s fine…if it’s not possible, it’s not possible. I’ll maybe think of another layout for the page or a way to use the featured pages.
The rest of the theme’s design is great and perfect for my needs as it is not too complicated (and the sidebar galleries look great) which is why I chose it.
Thanks for trying to help anyway.
I understand what you mean now. Normally we offer the opportunity to have a home page with a default page template, but this theme is built a bit differently to make use of the front page a bit more user friendly. I can see how that isn’t working in your favour here, but keep in mind sometimes it’s nice to have a more focused home page that introduces the site. Maybe you could add a small gallery of images or something in your page content instead. If you need help with doing one of these, just let me know.
