Setting up the homepage and menu customising?

I just downloaded the minimum theme but after 4 hours of fiddling around in the backend and reading the forums (and the stickied documentation, of course!) I still have a few questions.

How do you “set up” the homepage? I noticed that Pages have a ‘landing page’ setting but this doesn’t seem to change it to home. All I actually need is for the homepage to be a video (from vimeo, at 960px wide) but I understand I need to place the embed code into a post or a page. I’ve made a stickied Post and that works but it looks very ugly with the time stamp and other information. This was all trial and error – is there a straight forward way to make something the homepage?

In this lovely demo page (http://demo.studiopress.com/minimum/) the menu items are in the very top right hand side. Is this achievable in the theme?

Also, the image is stretched right across the screen, which is a look we’d like to be able to recreate. When posting an image in a page, however, the images are restricted to 740px wide which it calls ‘full size’. How do we achieve this?

    Thanks for your time!
(the website I’m working on is this: http://sonsandmothersdev.wordpress.com/)

The blog I need help with is: behindthescreensradio.wordpress.com

Hi Andrea, after more fiddling around I’ve resolved all of these issues myself BUT I still can’t work out how to stretch the image across the screen. If you go to the page you can see what I’m trying to do on the pages.

And the fonts are randomly changing. 5 hours ago the blog title font was slim and the text was a garamond looking font. And now it’s arial. Nothing has been changed since. Very odd.

Right now I’m seeing a static page set as the home page.

This is different than the theme’s home page template.

Go to Settings -> Reading and pick “your latest posts” so the template can do its job. ;)

thanks for the prompt reply, Andrea.

I’m actually kinda happy with the static home page now that I’ve worked out how to change it (why ‘Reading’, WP? such confusing terminology).

I’m using posts in our ‘news’ section and while I think I understand how to split the feeds, so to speak, (with tags/categories?) I need to hand the site over to someone and they will need it to be as simple as possible.

Any thoughts on how to stretch the image across the whole page or what template I need to use to make that happen?

And the font issue is very strange.

That’s not possible without access to edit the theme files, which is not possible when hosted at wordpress.com. only self hosted.
