Setting the length of a post vs. excerpting

Is there a way to have posts default to a shorter length, without employing the “excerpt” option? From the demo example of this theme, it would appear so, but I can’t figure it out.

What I’d like to do is have a teaser of the post appear on the front page (like an excerpt, but without the […] and loss of images in an excerpted post.) I like the “view more” link at the bottom of each post, which makes the […] in an excerpted post redundant. And I want the images to appear on the home page. Many of my posts are long, which isn’t ideal on the main page when not excerpting.

I ask, since it appears from the demo that this is an option.
    Any help is much appreciated.

Really liking the fresh look of this theme. Thanks!

Hi. Yes, you can use the “More” button to choose how much of the post gets displayed on the home page and archives.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks for your quick response.

I was aware of the “more” button, which puts a “keep reading” at the end of an abbreviated post. I wondered if perhaps there was a way to customize the site globally to say publish just the first two paragraphs.
I guess that’s what your excerpt setting does, however then I lose all my images from the home page!

Will it ever be possible to use the “excerpt” option but have it retain images that appear at the top of a post? I try to include an image or photo at the top of every post. When choosing excerpt, the page looses all it’s visual interest when it strips these things out.

Displaying by excert would be my preferred presentation, since I really like the “view more” footer you’ve put at the end of each post, but not without images. And when you use it with the “more” button/keep reading option, it seems redundant.

    Thanks again.

Hi. There’s no automated way to have it display just the first two paragraphs and images.

You either need to use the “More” button, or paste the HTML (image tags included) into the “Excerpt” field.

Sorry I can’t provide you with a better solution!
