    Hi Taras,

    It looks like the images in the secondary featured section (circles) are showing up distorted on my site (too narrow).

    Any fix for this?

    Also is it possible to remove the author name for each post on the homepage but retain the post date and time info?

    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: mainlymiles.com

    Hi Andrew,

    “It looks like the images in the secondary featured section (circles) are showing up distorted on my site (too narrow).”
    – Could you please share a screenshot of the issue? Here is what I see when I view your site (I’ve used different browsers): https://snipboard.io/IsR1Mm.jpg

    “Also is it possible to remove the author name for each post on the homepage but retain the post date and time info?”
    – Sure. Please use this custom CSS:

    .hfeed .entry-footer .byline {
      display: none;
    }

    .archive-grid .hentry .entry-footer .posted-on,
    #featured-content .hentry .entry-footer .posted-on {
      padding-left: 0;
    }

    Kind regards,
    Taras

    Thanks Taras,

    Custom CSS works great.

    Yes I think your screenshot shows the issue – the secondary images are being ‘squashed’ with the wrong aspect ratio. Like a landscape image is being forced to be square rather than being trimmed from each side.

    For example the shape the featured image in this article vs. how it appears here.

    Hope it makes sense.

    Andrew,

    Hm… strange. There were no changes made regarding a featured image size in this section for a long time.

    Functionality of the thumbnail generation comes from a WordPress core. The theme only sets a thumbnail size. By default, the secondary section in the Featured Content displays images with a size of 200x200px.

    When I inspect your site, I can see that WordPress generates a thumbnail but it’s not 200x200px. Although, it indicates the size in the image name: https://mainlymiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/SKL-London-Productivity-Pods-2-Singapore-Airlines-200×200.jpg

    When I view the demo site, I can see that thumbnails are properly generated: https://aquenedemo.wordpress.com/

    Your site and a demo site use the same theme files.

    Do you have any plugins that might affect the image sizes/functionality on your site?

    Thank you,
    Taras

    None I can think of. Tried deactivating a few of the recently installed ones one-by-one but no change noted.

    Andrew,

    “Tried deactivating a few of the recently installed ones one-by-one but no change noted.”
    – Try to deactivate your recently installed plugins and then:

    1) Install “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
    2) Regenerate all thumbnail sizes on your site.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    Taras
