    Hi, is it possible to remove the little diamond shapes on the categories widget on the footer and left slide out bar? As you’ll see I have the latest posts as a list on the footer and I’d like the same for the categories widget.
    Many thanks
    Leona

    The blog I need help with is artandher.com.

    Certainly, you can do that with this:

    .menu-drawer .site-description:before,
    .menu-drawer .menu:before,
    .taxonomies:before {
    display: none;
    }

    I thought there were others but it looks like they are not displayed on your site. Let me know if you find any more and I’ll get the selector for them as well.

    Thanks – Ben

    Hi Ben – long time no see! That code doesn’t work…..?? I need to remove the diamonds removed in the sidebar too please – all diamonds.
    Many thanks, hope you’re well.

    Hi Leona – good to hear from you again!

    Sorry the code didn’t work. I’ve tested it and it appears to work for me. Could you try adding it again and leaving the code in there so I can see how it affects things on the live site? I don’t currently see the css in the custom stylesheet (which you can see here: https://s2.wp.com/?custom-css=1&csblog=aa9is&cscache=6&csrev=83)

    Thanks. I tested your site and I’m not seeing the diamonds. Do they still display for you?

    That’s weird, I still have diamonds. I know diamonds are a girl’s best friend but….

    he hee :)

    You shouldn’t need to since wordpress.com works around this but can we ensure you have a clean cache. If you visit your site and press shift, and refresh, do the diamonds still appear?

    Next… would you be able to show me a screenshot of the issue? Just so I can make sure we’re talking about the same thing.

    Then, what operating system and browser are you using? Perhaps the CSS I used doesn’t work properly in all browsers.

    Sorry for the delay, only just got onto my laptop. I did the refresh but it didn’t work. I have the same problem in Chrome, Edge and Safari. I’ll gladly send you a screenshot to confirm what I’m referring to if you tell me how. Did you check to see if there was a dodgy code in my CSS? I’ll await your further instructions kind sir!

    ooh – I think I see what you mean now – I don’t think we were talking about the same thing :). The css I gave you removed some of the diamonds, from the page dividers, but didn’t remove them from between list items.

    There’s a few options now,
    So, keep the previous css since that does remove some diamonds, and then we have a few options.

    1. Replace the diamonds with bullets.

    .widget.widget_archive li:after, .widget.widget_categories li:after, .widget.widget_meta li:after, .widget.widget_pages li:after {
    content: "\2022";
    }

    There are loads of possible shapes you could use, I made an entity convertor for generating the necessary content value: https://prothemedesign.com/tools/ascii-entity-conversion/

    You can copy and paste any unicode character and grab the value then enter it into your css. For example ♡. If there’s a shape you want let me know and I will give you the code if it’s available.

    2. Alternatively we could remove them entirely:

    .widget.widget_archive li:after, .widget.widget_categories li:after, .widget.widget_meta li:after, .widget.widget_pages li:after {
    content: '';
    }

    Thanks for your help with this. I’ve replaced the diamond with a bullet point but what I really wanted was to have the categories as a list like the latest posts are. I assumed taking the diamonds out would make it into a list…..but I was wrong! Sorry if I didn’t explain myself properly, I’m a bit of a twit sometimes! Is it possible to have the categories in a list like the latest posts? Thanks :)

    Ah ha – in that case remove the code for the bullets and replace with:

    .widget.widget_archive li, .widget.widget_archive ul, .widget.widget_categories li, .widget.widget_categories ul, .widget.widget_meta li, .widget.widget_meta ul, .widget.widget_pages li, .widget.widget_pages ul {
    display: block;
    }

    .widget.widget_archive li:after, .widget.widget_categories li:after, .widget.widget_meta li:after, .widget.widget_pages li:after {
    display: none;
    }

    That should do the trick :)
