Reduce Footer Top/Bottom Padding

    Hi there!

    We are using a Tweak you posted earlier for the purpose of having a single full-width footer widget, which we use with the WordPress Recent Comments widget. We have also centred the widget text. Right now, we are experiencing two problems with the footer widget area:

    1. We would prefer to have commenter avatars adjacent to the centred recent comments text. But, when we turn on avatars in the widget settings, the avatars are left-aligned in the fooer although the comment text remains centre-aligned in the footer. It looks very silly, so we have had to turn avatars off. Is there a way to keep the avatars next to the centred comment text?

    2. There is a very large amount of padding above and below the footer widget. Is there a way to significantly reduce or eliminate it?

    I think this is our last question about modifying Tortuga for our use. Thank you for all of your help so far!

    Hi again,

    1) I really don’t know exactly. The Recent Comments widget is part of WordPress Core, not the Tortuga theme. Can you please enable Avatars so I can take a look if I might find some CSS snippet? You can also ask in the general forum about CSS modifications on https://wordpress.com/forums/forum/css-customization/

    2) You should be able to remove the padding with this CSS snippet:

    .footer-widgets-wrap {
        padding-top: 0;
    }

    .footer-widgets .widget {
        margin-bottom: 0;
    }

    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Sure thing! I’ve turned on the avatars in the Recent Comments widget. In addition to left-aligning the avatars, the space available for text in the widget has dramatically decreased, so the text for each link is now cut off with an ellipses (…) despite the fact that there’s plenty of space there.

    When the avatars are not displayed, the link text can use the full width of the widget, so there’s no truncation. There shouldn’t be truncation with all that space available there, so that’s another problem we’re having when using avatars.

    I suspect that this may be something to do with the internal coding of the Recent Comments widget itself, rather than the theme. But thank you for taking a look, just in case!

    Hi again,

    Thanks so much for turning on avatars. I’m sorry but I forgot that the Recent Comments widgets use HTML tables once avatars are enabled. I do not see any way to center that kind of layout, I’m sorry.

    Since the widget is part of WordPress Core I suggest to also ask about that on https://wordpress.com/forums/forum/css-customization/ Maybe the team of WordPress.com does know any solution for that.

    Cheers,
    Thomas
