Post excerpts default to 55 words

    Wordpress support thought this might be a theme compatibility issue, so posting here for help.

    When using the “Latest Posts” block, there is an option to change the post excerpts from 55 words to something else. Here is an example where I set it to 30. It looks correct while in editor mode, but always defaults back to the full excerpt length when posted.

    Hi there – thanks for the message.

    I’m afraid this isn’t very helpful but this sounds like a WordPress issue (the core software rather than dot com) rather than a theme one.

    My guess is there’s an incompatability between the latest posts block and the excerpt_length filter.

    I shall have a look to see if this is something I can fix, but it may be a bug in the software so I don’t know how much I can do to change it.

    Hi there. Sorry, I just saw this.

    Thanks for checking on the post excerpt length issue.

    I can get it to work correctly if I switch to a theme like Twenty Twenty or one of the other recent WordPress themes.

    BUT, it isn’t a big deal, and I am much happier with all of the other features offered by Chronicle.
