Portfolio shortcode

    hi,

This is complicated so I will try and be as clear as possible.

I have many audio portfolios, and want to display them in various ways:

    1. the introduction category/slug/whatever on the home page.
    2. the portfolio category/slug/whatever on the main podcast page.
    3. individual portfolio categories like anger/sleep/weight loss on sub portfolio pages.

I have a css code that eliminates certain categories from showing on gallery theme home pages, which I hope you can help me alter to suit portfolio items, which resolves 1. ([replaced with “)

    “body.blog article.category-shared-writings {
    display: none;”

Number 3 will use the portfolio shortcode, but I am having a problem with that. This is the code I used from the support doc for a test page https://2015newwebsite.wordpress.com/test-home-page/

    “portfolio display_types=false display_tags=false include_type=Introduction columns=3 showposts=9 order=DESC”

If i use the portfolio template it shows ALL portfolio items but with the correct page setup.

If I use the default template, there is a page title (which I don’t want), only the 9 required portfolios are correctly shown, but instead of the staggered setup, there are gaps after each line of portfolios which looks horrible.

Can you help me find a shortcode that both works with this theme and on wordpress.com.

My computer keeps changing shortcode for shortcake.

My very messy test site is https://2015newwebsite.wordpress.com but set to private so google doesn’t index bad pages. Please request an invite and I will process it straight away.

Thank you so much for your help!!

    Regards,

    Janet

The blog I need help with is greenesrelease.wordpress.com.

The portfolio shortcakes conflict with your theme and mess up the staggard page setup.

I have sent you a viewing invite.

    Hello Jannet,

    Thanks for the invitation.

If I use the default template, there is a page title (which I don’t want), only the 9 required portfolios are correctly shown, but instead of the staggered setup, there are gaps after each line of portfolios which looks horrible.

Portfolio shortcodes are rendered by the Jetpack plugin to display the portfolio items in the columns layout. You can’t get the Masonry layout via shortcodes in the Candela theme.

Can you help me find a shortcode that both works with this theme and on wordpress.com.

As per my understanding about your question, you are trying to show different portfolio items on different pages just like the shortcode example.

Why not you are using portfolio types and tags to group specific portfolios. Examples according to demo,

Portfolio group with Illustration Type: https://candelademo.wordpress.com/project-type/illustration/

    Portfolio group with Print Type:
    https://candelademo.wordpress.com/project-type/print/

    Portfolio group with Retro Tag:
    https://candelademo.wordpress.com/project-tag/retro/

    Portfolio group with Island Tag:
    https://candelademo.wordpress.com/project-tag/island/

So, you can manage your data very easily via Types and Tags.

Please feel free to ask additional questions.
    Thanks

thanks for the information! I assume use of types and tags is done via links on pages or the menu?

To clarify what I want for the home page, I want only 1 category to show, in this case I want introduction project type.

I tried another theme with similar graphic display on the home page for posts – like this one https://lensdemo.wordpress.com.

To dictate which posts were shown on the homepage, I just had to:

    1. Give all the posts that I didn’t want on the homepage a “blog” category
    2. Add this css (“body.blog article.category-blog {
    display: none;”)

Your theme uses portfolio instead of post for the home page, so I need to adjust the css code to match that. I have tried a couple of variations but none work.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Any suggestions of ways to control the page content that displays as the home page. Or how to set up a page using the portfolio types and tags.

    Hello,

thanks for the information! I assume use of types and tags is done via links on pages or the menu?

Yes, these are standard links and you can use them in the menus, widgets, in the content of pages or posts — just like other links.

Your theme uses portfolio instead of post for the home page, so I need to adjust the css code to match that. I have tried a couple of variations but none work.

I have forward this request to developer to have possibility to hide portfolio types via CSS. As, Candela is using Masonry layout, so i am not sure at the moment that hiding certain portfolio types will effect masonry layout or not.

Any suggestions of ways to control the page content that displays as the home page. Or how to set up a page using the portfolio types and tags.

    As per my suggestion,

    – You can use single Portfolio Type e.g. Introduction in your case.
    – You can further classify them with the help of Portfolio Tags

In this way, you have no need to use any CSS Code Snippet to hide the specific portfolio types, and you will have power to further classify them with the help of tags.

Please feel free to ask additional questions.
    Thanks
