Perennial Documentation >>> : ” The Custom Header image will be visible in the featured content area on the home page, if the featured content is not available.“. Does “not available” mean no Featured Content anywhere on the site? E.g. could it be shown on a different Page or, preferably ..

.. Is there a way – perhaps by some additional CSS – to have the Home Pg display one large / full screen Custom HEADER IMAGE at the top of page, with the Featured Content Slider displayed somewhere below it?

Ideally, I’d like a static full screen (custom header) image to be the start point / Home view, of the site. Then for the (lovely, full screen) Featured Content slider to sit somewhere below but still on the Home Page.

Am I being very thick and missing something basic, +/or can you help? Many thanks.

The blog I need help with is abrain.co.

    Hi,

You can have either Custom Header Image or Featured Content at a time. Both features can’t be used simultaneously.

Sorry, you can’t change the position of Featured Content.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the clarity designorbital.

But, in which case .. is there a way I can stop the featured Content Slider automatically moving on to next slides? Either by adding a much longer transition time, or making it a mouseclick (or similar) to move to next image?

The basic issue (for me) is that I don’t want the HoPg full display image (as it shows in the featured content slider) to change every few seconds – is it possible, and where, in the css (or whatever) to alter this?

    many thanks for your time.

    Hi,

No, there is not a built-in option to stop the Featured Content slider automatically. And, it will not be possible to delay the transition with simple CSS tweaks.

    How??? In customizer,

    1) i have blanked out ‘featured’ in its Ftrd Cntnt section. and left both other option boxes unchecked.

    2) have uploaded a header image in its ‘Custom Hdr’ section.

    3) (an in media, this image is ‘attached’ to the Home Page).

    In Settings,

    4) i have tried both checked and unchecked ‘enable fullsize carousel’
    yet …

… the (automatically transitioning) Slider still shows at the top of home page, not my Custom Hdr Image.

    What am i missing?

I have already read over all the wordpress docmntn re featred images, custom headers, etc etc .. and can’t understand why i can’t see my static header image at the landing page .. not the changing slider image (which is the theme’s ‘featured content’ option).

Am I asking to do too much tweaking of this theme?

(please see also my next qstn regards CSS, but similarly arising from your responses).

    thanks

ok .. i am a novice regards CSS but from what i’ve understood, most themes (on wp premium plan) do allow you to add a bit of CSS code (in the customiser +/or within ‘presentation’ codings or whatever) to alter the transition times (in seconds) of Slideshows.

(And this is the info/instructions/directions/coding, i would here be asking you for – and as many theme authors do provide where their themes allow).

I appreciate that themes are put together differently, and Perennial will have its individual scopes/parameters, but when you say “simple css tweaks”, does that mean even that sort of ‘css tweaking’ in the customizer? Because this level (of CSSing) i do feel capable of trying.

Or do you mean that it would be so complicated to alter, that it’s probably not practical?

Again, apols if i am missing something basic here (it does happen!) but your help and time is much appreciated in clarifying the issues.

    Hi,

I have used the word “Simple CSS Tweaks” means, with CSS only. Featured Content delay is controlled by Javascript. So, it can’t be changed with CSS only.

Further, you can use CSS code in the Customizer to change the look and feel of theme.

Please feel free to ask additional questions.
    Thanks
