More CSS: omit author & date / keep categories, tile color opacity, text styles

    Hello again, more questions:

    1. Is it possible to just remove the “posted by (author)” on home page tiles, and “posted by (author) on (date)” on post pages—but keep categories? (I am the only author, and my posts are titled with a date, so both are extraneous for my blog)

    2. Is it possible to adjust the opacity of the roll-over color on the home page tiles so that the image is visible underneath?

    3. You kindly provided me with the CSS code for modifying the appearance of anchors, but I just realized it affects ALL anchors (like the Categories in the post header on single post pages)—can you tell me the names of the selectors so I can modify different kinds of link text on the site with more precision? (Child or ID selectors, I think? I’m not sure which the term is.)

    4. If I wanted to add styling to the Block Quote text, what is the selector I should use?

    5. I like the default theme font, but when it is selected, the body text is Regular, but the italics are Light. How can I make the italics the same weight as the body text?

    (sorry for so many questions! I’m trying to look things up myself, too; sometimes I can’t find answers I’m certain of. Still learning, but trying to educate myself.) Thank you!

    The blog I need help with is sevenmilesblog.com.

    Amendment: I just realized I can change the dates to the past so that the posts stay in order and have the correct date on them. So, regarding item 1.) I would just like to know if I can remove “posted by (author)” in both spots. Thank you!

    Hi.

    1. I’m afraid it’s not possible.

    2. You can use the following code:

    .image-info {
    	background-color: rgba(203, 232, 107, 0.9);
    }

    3. You can apply CSS code to body.single #main .meta-info a to change post header categories links styling.

    4. blockquote

    5. Do you mean headings are light? If so, do you want to change headings globally or only in the content area?

    2, 3, and 4– thank you!

    1. Hmm.. What about just getting rid of the author info on both homepage tiles, and post page heads? Ideally (this would make my day!), I would like both homepage tiles and post page headers to say “posted on (date) in (categories)”

    If it’s impossible to delete author info, how do I style the “posted by (author) in (categories)” text on the home page tiles? (I need to make them smaller if I can’t remove the author info.)

    NEW:
    How do I style (adjust size) of:
    –Site Title in sidebar,
    –Post Titles in home page tiles
    –Post Titles on post pages
    (the Fonts tab in Customizer affects all three, but I need to control them independently)

    5. Found a workaround, not that important—
    Sorry, I wasn’t specific, my fault– I am referring to the theme’s default Base Font typeface… only on this post“>certain posts (oddly), if I leave the Base Font option on “default theme font”, the Roman/Regular main body text looks great, but the italics show up as Light (the weight, I mean).

    I just set the Base Font to Open Sans (which is, I think, the theme’s default) and it resolves the issue.

    You can use the following code to hide post meta information:

    .image-info .post-meta { display: none; }

    Here’s the code to style the text:

    .image-info .post-meta { font-size: 12px; }

    It’s not possible to delete author info, this would require some php customizations, not allowed on WordPress.com.

    How do I style (adjust size) of:
    –Site Title in sidebar,
    –Post Titles in home page tiles
    –Post Titles on post pages

    #sidebar h4 { font-size: 10px; }
    body.home .title h2 { font-size: 20px; }
    body.single #main h1 { font-size: 30px; }

    Okay great, thank you for all of that! I’ve been using the Developer Tools in my browser, but wasn’t certain about a few of those, thank you for listing them!

    Hmm… regarding the author query: if I use that code to remove the author/categories line on the tiles, can I ADD the “Excerpt” item that is part of the post-writing page to the tiles in it’s place? That would do a lot to solve my problem…

    thank you!

    I’m afraid not, this would require php modifications, it’s not possible to accomplish it with CSS.

    Darn! Hopefully being able to have more control over that important text on the front page tiles will become an option in the future. Thank, as always, for your assistance!
