Mobile view drop down menu categories not working
I am loving this theme (Nikau), however the big issue that is ruining the experience: desktop view works well, but the mobile version is not showing the arrows for the categories (subitems) in the main menu. Neither the button MORE INFO.
Actually both the button and the arrows for submenus are there, but invisible. When I carefully try to click on it, it becomes blue and I see it… but this is not convenient, and does not work all the time. I need the arrows and more info button to work.
When I’ve checked the NIKAU theme features and information, there’s a section for ‘smartphone view’, in which the drop-down menu arrows and the MORE INFO button are clearly there.
Another issue: I have a widget in the slide-out panel (a gallery). Again, this works in the desktop version, but in the mobile view I can only see the title I have given it, but not the pics. It does not look good at all.
But I would say that the priority is to have a drop-down menu that works in the mobile view! As shown in the NIKAU information page when I bought this theme.

The blog I need help with is: historydelights.com
I am having the same issues
If I could get some help too that’d be great thanks!
Regarding the mobile menu issue:
Thank you so much for your feedback and for reporting the mobile menu issue. I’m working on a fix for this right now and the issue should be resolved within the next 24hours.
Regarding the visibility of the slide-out panel widget area on mobile:
I will also provide a fix for this issue. I’m so sorry that it’s been taking me so long. The issue should also be fixed within the next 24hours.
Thank you so much for your patience.
I hope you continue to enjoy using the Nikau theme.
Thank you for getting back to me.
I would like to keep using this theme, but I am not sure whether this is going to be possible.
The issue in the mobile view is still there…
Any advice…? It’s very frustrating.
I love the look of the site and I don’t want to rush you either, but like Laura said, it still isn’t working and I was really hoping I could release my website this week but I know most of my social media followers will probably view my website through mobile instead of on a laptop and I would like my content to be there!
If you could help with this solution please let us know!
The issue is still there.
Hi Theme Author,
I don’t understand why you never got back to me.
I do not understand why you create false expectations.
I do not understand why you offer an unrealistic deadline (the foundation of any professional, manage your own deadlines and manage customer expectations).
I do not understand why this theme is available for purchase (Nikau) if this issue was already known, and clearly still not solved.
Yes, I got my refund back, which would allow me to change to another theme. I would be happy to pay for this theme if it was finally working. However, I don’t trust anymore paying for themes, or don’t have the energy. I don’t trust the responses received.
I do hope you can do fix this ASAP as it is getting more and more frustrating. I do not want to have to switch themes because I like the overall look but the mobile view is very crucial for my blog.
I’m very sorry and I totally understand that you are frustrated. I’m very sorry for this. Unfortunately we were dealing with an unexpected illness last week therefore the delay in the fix.
I’m working on the fix myself right now.
Thanks a lot for your patience.
I hope you forgive me for my mistake. I can totally understand that you are disappointed. I should have let you know about the delay in another message. Please excuse me for this.
I just fixed the issues mentioned myself. You should see there fixes now, maybe you need to clear your browser cache once.
I regards to the images in the widget area. I tested the gallery now and it took a little while for the images to load into the browser. I still need to understand why this happens, but they are visible. I tested in Chrome and Safari.
I will get back to you as soon as I understand the slow loading of the images.
Thank you so much for your understanding and your patience.
I hope everything’s ok. Thank you for responding! I saw that the menu works but sometimes it doesn’t work and it’ll freeze. Not sure if that’s my end. But I also was wondering if it’s possible to have a page not show up when there’s categories within that page.
Example: on my blog if you hit gallery there’s 2 categories: travel and food. But if you press gallery it goes to gallery and there’s nothing there. Can you make it so that you can’t get to the gallery page and only click on either of the 2 categories?
Thanks for your understanding. Yes, everything is ok now, I just had to rearrange our support schedule quite suddenly last week. I’m truly sorry for the trouble this has caused.
Could you send me the link to your website, since I can’t see it here in the thread? Thanks so much. This way I can easiest check if the menu is working properly on mobile or if I need to adjust the code further.
I think I understand what you mean. You would like to create a parent category that is empty?
You can do this by adding a Custom link as parent menu item and add “#” in the URL field. After you saved the new menu item you can delete the “#” in the URL field. This should give you an empty parent menu item.
I am sorry to hear about your circumstances. I would not have minded to wait even longer, provided I had the information about the new deadline. But I understand that sometimes the circumstances make it impossible. Thank you for working on it.
The button ‘More Info’ still gives issues. If I click it it shows the title I’ve given to my photo gallery (in the widget area), but nothing happens… It works in the desktop, but not in the mobile view (I’ve cleared cache, and tried two different browsers…). My only option at this stage would be to remove it completely, which I did not want to do.
no worries at all, I can totally understand the frustration you experienced and I know it’s not professional to leave you waiting without explanation. I’m so sorry for this.
I’ve been testing the “More button” on mobile the last days and can also see that it still gives issues. I couldn’t figure out why so now I’m thinking it’s probably best to delete the button and show all further widget areas right away.
I need permission from the WordPress.com team for those changes, so I can’t promise yet that this will be the solution. I will suggest the fix tomorrow (since it’s already night time here in New Zealand) and update you then.
Thanks so much for your understanding and your patience.
Thank you for letting me know.
No problem, thank you for trying that possible solution. In understand that it might take some time, and that it might not work… but hopefully yes.
I’ll wait to hear from you.
Sorry, I am not understanding what to do. On my page for example when I go to the word food in menu, it drops down to different locations but when I click the word food it goes to that empty page. I would like it if you couldn’t click on that page and can only click on the categories in the drop down menu.
Not sure if that makes sense or if that’s what you understood from my previous question but I didn’t understand the explanation could you reiterate?
I want to give you a quick update and thank everyone again for their patience:
I submitted the enhanced mobile widget area by now and hopefully the fix will be available shortly. The widgets in the mobile menu will then be visible by default.
regarding your question about the sub categories. The behaviour you are describing is the default WordPress behaviour.
But you can change that by adding Custom Link menu item as the first parent menu item. In this Custom Link menu you can leave the URL input field empty which will result in an “unclickable” menu item.
Please let me know, if you need further help with this. I think to keep the confusion minimal, it would be best if you just open a new thread then and I can answer you there.
Thanks so much,
the bug fix for the Mobile menu slide-out widgets is now live and the widgets should now be visible in the mobile menu right away.
Please let me know if this is not the case and you still have difficulties. You might need to clear your mobile browser cache once.
Thanks so much for your patience,
