Mimbo Pro FAQ
Hi there – thanks for choosing Mimbo Pro as the theme for your WordPress.com website.
For basic docs you can check out the Mimbo Pro Showcase page
There are some basic FAQ’s available on the Mimbo Pro Theme Docs.
Please feel free to post your Mimbo Pro powered site here, I’m looking forward to seeing how people use the theme.
I noticed on your website that the samples showed different colors for the “Feature” section. This is necessary for me because now the “Feature” section clashes with my background and header images. How do I go about selecting a different color for that section? I can’t seem to find it and am hoping I don’t have to do custom css…I’m not familar with that and I based my purchase on the samples on the website.
Which website are you referring to? the theme demo here on WordPress.com?
There are different colours available for non WordPress.com customers (for self hosted blogs), but these are separate themes and unfortunately are not available on WordPress.com.
If you mean the demo here (http://mimboprodemo.wordpress.com/) then could you be more specific about which colours you mean?
Unfortunately I have a feeling the answer may involve custom css which I’d be happy to give you some pointers on if you want to use them.
I am talking about the mimbo theme. I just purchased it for my wordpress.com blog (not self hosted). The blue that’s in the Feature Post section (right above the feature slider section) is the part I’d like to change. My background is an orange sunrise photos and my header is green. I saw on the theme creator’s site that the color of this section had been changed for some sites. Specifically this site: http://justramblingon.co.uk/ was listed as in the theme showcase. Notice the section is green (not blue).
Hope that helps.
Hi Pamela – the site you linked to was created by a Pro Theme Design customer. They purchased the theme and then customised the css to suit their requirements. Since it’s a nature related blog they edited the css to make it green
I’m afraid the theme doesn’t come with settings to change things in this way, and the only way to alter it yourself would be to use the custom css addon.
Ok…thanks for your help. I was worried that you’d say that. Guess I should have asked before I purchased the theme. Thanks again.
I had many past posts in which I centered photos. All of them now have left aligned photos.
Even with new posts, I can’t seem to center photos or add more than one photo per line even though (based on the size of my photos) I should be able to fit more than one photo per line.
Here is an example of a posting in which the photos are set to be centered and three per row: http://alaskagirlatheart.com/2012/01/17/january-2012-adventure-of-the-month/
I’d be happy if I could at least figure out how to center the photos. As you can see the link above doesn’t look so great since my conversion to the Mimbo theme.
Hi Pamela – that’s an interesting problem you have there.
What theme were you using that formatted the images in the way you’re referencing? I’d be interested to see how they have done this.
I’ve experimented and one thing you could try doing is changing the images so that they are set to align to the left. You can do this by editing the html (changing the class alignnone to alignleft) or by deleting those images and then reinserting them with the mdeia uploader and chosing the align left option.
Doing this will create 2 rows with 3 images in each.
I just bought the mimbo-pro theme. On the home page none of my videos or images appear!! And also it’s the same with thumbnails too!! Could you please help??
Hi Burcu – thanks for buying the theme!
The theme uses the post thumbnails to create the images for the homepage and archive pages. Unfortunately it can’t use videos.
For example – to make the thumbnail appear on the “Take it easy in Japan” post, you shold:
- take a screenshot of the video
- upload it to that post
- click the “set as featured image” link in the media editor
Then it will show up on the homepage and the category/ archive pages. There’s more info on uploading images here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
If you haven’t done this in the past then the images won’t show up, but it will work for all future posts so should look good in no time.
I previously used the Clean and Fresh theme. However, even if I create a new post now that I have Mimbo up and running it will not allow me to center my photos. They will look centered in the editor, but as soon as I preview or publish they all left align.
I have not tried your suggestion (above) on the old post yet. Since I’m seeing the same problem with new posts I believe there may be another issue.
Hi Pamela. I am looking into this and think I may have a solution.
Could I confirm something though? I tried replicating the situation with the Fresh & Clean theme using the html in the article you linked and all the pictures lined up down the side of the page – they didn’t center align. Is this how they are currently for you as well?
When I created them I set them to center and in the Fresh and Clean theme they showed up centered. I made no change to the post and now in the Mimbo theme they show up left aligned one per line (in Fresh and Clean they were side by side). Centered photos don’t seem to work at all for Mimbo…at least not that I have found. Although I have not tried editing the html to center them. Maybe that would work??? I’d hate to have edit the html for all of them.
Hi Pamela – I think I have a fix for the centered image problem and have submitted it to WP.com so hopefully that will update shortly. If you embed them as ‘centered’ then they should now be laid out as expected.
I wasn’t sure about the side by side images. I will need to do a bit more digging to see what is most commonly done in this situation.
Excellent! Thank you so much. That will be a huge help. Let me know what you find out about the side-by-side photos.
Will there be some sort of notification when the “center” change has gone into effect? This is the first time I’ve purchased a WordPress theme, so I don’t know what the process for updates is.
Thank you again for helping me out.
Hey Pamela – I am new to having themes on WordPress.com as well so it’s a learning process for all :)
The way things work is seamless (I hope). I update the theme, and then the WordPress.com folk update the code on the site. As far as I know there’s no notification of changes.
I’ve updated things for the centered images and it should be live now.
Thanks! I can now center photos and I really appreciate that.
Have you had a chance to look at more than one photo per line. I used to be able to do this with my old theme, by selecting None (instead of Right, Left, or Center) and of course making sure that the photos would fit width wise.
I’ve been able to get around this a bit, by inserting a gallery, but you can’t have multiple galleries per post. For instance, if I have six photos, I might want to group three, write a bit about them and then group three more.
Hi Pamela – I am still looking at this. I’m not sure how to solve it at the moment though :(
I tried to duplicate the effect seen on Fresh and Clean, but I can’t se how they did it. It should be really simple so I’ve probably just missed something obvious.
Hi Pamela – I think I’ve solved it and have submitted a fix to wp.com. Hopefully this will be resolved shortly :)
This is excellent news! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to try it out once it’s updated on WP.
