menu issues landing page design
Loving the theme. However, I’m stuck on 2 issues and am hoping for feedback.
1) Both the “toggle menu” and “toggle search” icons in the top left corner on the landing page are inactive, no matter how many different ways I’ve tried to activate them. I’m not seeing anything in the Oxford instructions that even mentions them. Any advice or direction?
2) I love the landing page shown in the example, with the large “OXFORD” lettering, the feature story taking up all columns below the title, and three rows of stories displayed below the feature story. My website landing page lacks those 3 qualities at the moment. As with problem #1, I have looked for ways to remedy this but have fallen short. Advice?
I’m relatively new to WordPress, but am picking things up quickly. I realize some of these challenges may be due to my rookie’ness. Thank you for your time in helping me learn!
The blog I need help with is svsureflections.com.
Hey again, Justin 👋
I suggest switching off any plugins for a moment as see if that helps.
Let us know how that goes!
Thanks, Scott. I did have some plug-ins, but after reading your message, I deactivated them. The only three I don’t seem to be able to shut down seem to be 3 that I thought are provided by WordPress: Akismet, JetPack, and VaultPress. After deactivating the others, the issues still seem to be ongoing. Or do I need to delete plug-ins entirely?
Hey again, Justin! Thanks for checking.
I just had a chat with out developers, and it actually looks like an issue caused by the new Business plan. It’s tricking our theme code conditions into behaving like WordPress.org instead of WordPress.com.
We’ll get that sorted today 😀 Let us know if you’re still seeing issues tomorrow!
I gave it a day, but still no luck. Do I need to do some sort of hard reset on the template to purge whatever code I was given at the start? Thanks for your help.
Good news: It’s working here, Justin! So yes, you’ll want to try hard refreshing your browser to see the changes.
Let us know how that goes 😀
That works! And looks amazing. Thank you so much again.
One last question: The theme’s demo makes it look like you can place the top story across the entire width of the homepage for the desktop format. I do have a story flagged as “featured” right now, but it only puts it as the first of the stories featured in the 3-column homepage format. I’m not seeing any other function that will allow me to give it that larger prominence. Is there a trick to doing that?
Glad to hear that, Justin!
You’re halfway there with your front page, all you need to do now is set this page to use the ‘Homepage’ page template. With a ‘Featured’ post set, the templates should automatically take care of the layout changes for you 😀
Let us know how it goes.
I’m confused now. I have a homepage at http://www.SVSUreflections.com. I can change the looks of that by “customizing” the themes. There is no “page attributes” feature on the theme customization page. The only place I can find that feature is when I “add” a page.
I can “add a page”, select that “Homepage” template, and the resulting page looks like how I want the homepage to look. Except it adds to the URL. In other words, I want http://www.SVSUreflections.com to look like the demo, not http://www.SVSUreflections.com/(fill in the blank here) to look like the demo. I feel like I’m missing a step here.
Nevermind the above message. I figured it out, and everything looks great. Thanks again for your help, everyone.
You’re welcome, Justin!
