Make featured images into links?

    I’m sorry if this has already been answered – I saw answers to similar questions, but not about the featured images themselves.

    Is there a way to make the featured image in a post link to a media file? For example, I would like to have a user click on the ‘featured image” in a gallery post and the document download link would come up.

    Obviously, I could insert the image in the post, and make a link from there, but that would mean two of the same image in a gallery post.

    When uploading an image, be sure to click File URL (5), under Link URL.
