Linen: font shrinks if viewed in IE8

Hi, I’ve been using Linen for a while and I love it, but recently saw my blog on a friend’s PC and the font was tiny, almost unreadable — my friend uses IE8.

(I use IE9 or Chrome, occasionally Firefox — it’s OK on the up to date versions).

On IE8, it’s marginally better now I’ve changed the font from FF Meta to Droid Serif but still the sizes are still all wrong because they vary across the page — the sidebar text is as usual in some parts, but not others (e.g.

text widgets are normal but Recent Post widget links are in tiny font) but, worse, the main body font (either on the front page or single post pages) is all too small.

I write fiction; a lot of readers could still be using IE8. Any chance this could be fixed please?

The blog I need help with is: marthawilliams.org

    Hey there,

Do you have a link to the site you’re using Linen on? We’ll take a look at it – thanks!

Hi Andy, thanks — it’s here: http://marthawilliams.org/ — also when I use IE8 the demo (on WordPress.com) does the same, and other Linen sites (friend’s Linen site, and the example site on the wp theme page — room902.com etc).

The Linen theme on the main Theme Foundry page (not wp.com) works, though — there the main page fonts are OK (but the sidebar fonts are really small).

    Hi there,

I just viewed both your site and our demo site in IE8 (and IE9), and I couldn’t see any issues with the font size.

Perhaps your friend has changed the default font size of IE8.

Have you been able to see this issue on any other machine running IE8, or has this issue only appeared on your friend’s PC?

    Thanks!

Hi Scott, thanks very much for checking. I’ll try to find someone else running IE8 & see. It’s not anything simple like a zoom / font size function because only parts of the page shrink; in other sections (sidebar/footer) the font remains normal size. I’ll do a bit more digging at this end. Cheers, M

Let us know how the check goes. If it’s still not working, we’ll have to debug a bit further!

Thanks, it’ll be something at our end if you’ve not seen it on your IE8. Will have a look — thanks for your help. :)
