limit on the number of posts with working audio players
Moved our self-designed website to wordpress.com with your soundcheck theme and uploaded around 100 audio files to posts imported into wordpress.com. When I now go back to listen to the earlier posts – the music player does not load. It works on later posts (like the first 7 of 12 pages). Is there a limit to the amount of posts with working audio players that you can have on this theme or on wordpress.com?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
There shouldn’t be a limit. With that said, I just visited your site 5 mins ago and it appeared most of your media files were not being loaded (404’ing). I tried checking now and I can’t load your site at all (whitescreen). I noticed your URL is not a wordpress.com URL, but a custom one. Maybe this has something to do with it? Are you setting this custom domain functionality up right now?
I can’t seem to reproduce the whitescreen or 404 errors. I’ve also asked others and can’t get it to reproduce. As far as accessing the site goes, everything works fine on our end. Is there any posts in particular you can’t see?
Ok, I did some more testing and there seems to be a limit of the 50 most recent audio posts being the only ones that have working audio players. These same 50 most recent audio player posts are also the only audio posts that show up in the audio player widget. Here is some links and images for examples.
If I delete a post that has a working audio player, the next most recent post without a working audio player now has one. Is there really a 50 audio player limit? Is there a workaround or can it be fixed? Otherwise I’ll have to find another theme, and we really like your design.
It may have been a small glitch on WP.com, as I can now see the site and images are working well.
Thanks for the links and images as well. For the post that doesn’t work, it is because the URL to the audio file is the attachement URL as seen in the “Link URL” option of the Media Popup for the audio file. It needs to link to the .mp3 file. You can easily fix this by clicking on the choose “File URL” for the “Link URL” option. Hope that makes sense.
Lastly, yes, there was a 50 post limit. Initially I had this set to be unlimited. However, WP.com suggested I set a number for this for performance reasons. I didn’t think 50 would be beaten! So, I have updated this number and will post a fix soon.
I think I got it, but if there is a limit to the number of audio posts, how would changing the file URL help?
Great! Thank you! Yes, we have been running this blog self hosted since 2007 and have accumulated 104 audio posts as of today. From this point forward, I can see a new audio file coming to the site once or twice a month, which can add up in the years ahead, and it would be crucial to know that we will have the audio file capabilities.
Also, when can I expect the fix to take into effect? We just sent the site out to press with a new album being released September 21st and I’d like to know everything was in working order.
Thanks for your time and assistance.
The changes look like they have been deployed. Give your site a test now and see how things work.
It works! Thank you!
