Left Sidebar Widget Images Not Showing Up

  • Hi,

On our site, chicagochinesenews.wordpress.com, some of the small left widget images are not showing up. Underneath the red “Follow” button on the left, there should be two images (http://www.chinesenewshome.com/onlineads/leftside/junanex.jpg and http://www.chinesenewshome.com/onlineads/testimage.jpg), but they are not appearing, even though entering the URL into the browser itself will bring them up. I am using Google Chrome.

What is weird is that the above image on the left (the blue/black book) and the right sidebar images do show up, and they’re being called from a similar location, but just a different folder. What is also weird is that I tried on some other computers, and the missing images will sometimes show up in Firefox, but not Chrome, and not on all computers. Could you help me with this problem? Thank you!

  • Hi there – I don’t see the images either using Chrome.

This image does not exist – http://www.chinesenewshome.com/onlineads/testimage.jpg – however it doesn’t show as a broken image, and neither does the other image which I can view.

If I inspect the page it says the images are blocked by the browser – which normally means an ad blocker is stopping them from displaying.

Looking at the url they both contain the phrase ‘onlineads’ which is something that would definitely be blocked by ad blockers.

As such I think the reason they are not showing is that the browsers where the ads don’t show are running ad blockers.

The only way to fix this would be to host the images somewhere else and not put them in a directory that mentions ads or banners or anything else advertising related.

  • Wow, thank you so much! I just changed the directory folder name and it’s working! That was so clever – I never considered that it was my own AdBlock turned against me haha!
