layout and showcase

  • Hello. I’m new to this (so hope my questions are too perfunctory). I can get a video on the page if I use the default template. If I change it to “showcase” however, the video disappears. I have gone into “settings>Reading” and selected “static page”. What else should I do to get this to work? Also, I’d like to get ride of the search bar and other widgets.

    Looking forward to your advice.

  • Hello,
To set your showcase as the homepage, ensure you have created a Home page and selected the showcase page template, then set it as home under Settings > Reading.

For video posts, ensure the “video” post format is selected in the right sidebar of the post editor. Then “sticky” any post you want to display in the slider. You can view detailed instructions here:

  • Thanks for the help. I’m still not quite getting it right. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have Page Attributes set to “(no parent)” and “showcase” and Order, “1”.

In Settings>Reading I have Front Page (which is what I assume you meant in your message as “home page”) is set to “A Static page”. With the pull down menu I have the page that I want to be a Showcase page next to the “Front page” label. Next to the Posts page label i have nothing (I’ve left it as “select” from the pull down menu).

Then.. in the post itself I have inserted the “embed” code from Vimeo and selected the option for “stick this post to the front page”. Under format I have selected “video”.

I’m not sure what else I can do?

  • Hello,
Your current home page is using the Default page template (you can see this defined in the source code body tag if you click View Source), so first go into Pages and select your showcase page and click Quick Edit. Ensure the Showcase template is selected in the page template drop-down and that you do not have any pages in trash or published with the same name. Under the showcase page, click View Page to view it directly and ensure it works.
Then create a new page called “Blog” and assign it to the blog page template.
Visit Settings> Reading and select the showcase in the first menu, and blog in the second.
