Image: not square by default?

    Dear team – I have got a question concerning the featured image of a post:

    The featured images appear on the start page as squares. I noticed that not all images in my blog behave that way; e.g. the middle picture (part of book cover “Die Wahrheit über den Fall…”) is not 100% width. Also the blue boat below is not 100% height.

    How can I make sure that the featured photos are always a regular square? – I thought the photos uploaded are altered in a way automatically that always a square is displayed. Or do they need a minimum width/height so that this works?

    Thank you very much in advance!

    Best Stephan :)

    The blog I need help with is waba.me.

    Dear Sevenfive; thank you very much for your quick reply.
    No, I’m running the theme out of the box on WordPress.com. I have just inserted the following CSS lines through theme customisation:

    body a {
    	color: #bcae93;
    }

    h1.site-title {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    	font-size: 2.8em;
    }

    h1.post-title {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    }

    div.site-title {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    	font-size: 2.8em;
    }

    span.title-wrap {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    }

    nav.site-navigation {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    	font-size: 1.2em;
    }

    footer.site-footer {
    	font-size: .75em;
    }

    div.site-content {
    	background: white;
    }

    .site-main {
    	background: white;
    }

    div.site-content {
    	font-size: 1.2em;
    }

    .single .post-author {
    	display: none;
    }

    .single .post-category {
    	display: none;
    }

    .single .post-comment-count {
    	display: none;
    }

    .post-navigation {
    	display: none;
    }

    .post-title {
    	text-transform: lowercase;
    }

    Best Stephan :)

    This is happening because your images sizes are not big enough to crop to the width/height defined by the theme. The thumbnail images must be at least 219×219 pixels big to fit the thumbnail area.

    For example, the Die Wahrheit über den Fall image is only 188px wide. The Auf zu neuen… image below it is only 200px high.

    These images are then stretched to fit the Post content area on single post pages, which is why they look a bit pixelated. For the best overall look, it’s recommended to have your images fit the largest content width for the theme which is 660×440 px.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks very much – that helps! :)

    I thought the size of the image doesn’t matter because it’s automatically adapted according to the theme’s needs. I now know what to do!

    Thanks – Best Stephan :)
