Image captions on main page

    Hi!

    Me again. Is there a way to remove captions from the images shown on the home page? I definitely want the captions to be viewed on the actual post page, but when displayed on the home page they make for a confusing entry to the post excerpt.

    Also, when creating the captions for images, what inline code do I use to make separate lines? For example, on just about any image, I would like three lines:

    Subject
    Media and size
    Date and location

    Lastly, I’ve discovered that there are at least three ways to create and edit a post — the WordPress mobile app, the online WordPress block editor, and the online WordPress classic editor — and all of them support different functions for any given post. If I edit a post in “classic”, the post appears broken in the online block editor and the mobile app; however, the online block editor and mobile app don’t appear to support some of the same functionality as the “classic” editor. An example is to link the inline image to the actual source file in the WP media library — which is an automatic function of the “classic” editor, built with the online block editor and the mobile app, you have to already know what the link is… it doesn’t self-populate.

    Is there any way to resolve this? Or should I just get accustomed to using one editor and stick with just that one so all of my code is consistent?

    Thank you again in advance!

    Hi there,
    you will need to add some custom HTML to display these lines

    <div class="caption">
    your content here
    </div>

    after each image.
    It is suggested to use either the Classic or the block editor, both will cause broken html probably. Classic editor is outdated and not recommended for use anymore.

    Let me know if you need additional help with this.

    Thank you very much! I was rather expecting the response that you gave, so I’ll figure out a different way of dealing with captions that won’t cause broken html.

    Thanks also for letting me know about the “classic” editor being outdated; I will just go forward with the block editor from here. Is there a preferred version of the block editor? I.e., is the web-based block editor considered better or inferior to the mobile block editor app? I’ve dug enough into both to see that they handle things differently, but want to make sure that I use whatever editor is supported in the future.

    Thanks again!

    Hi,
    Desktop version of the block editor is preferable, while you can add captions on the fly with that.

    Understood. I consider this ticket resolved.
