IE 8: Appearance while logged on and off to WP

Checked today to see if the fix solved the issues I was having with the Portfolio theme in IE8. In essence none of the issues I earlier reported have been resolved and I noticed that there is a difference in appearance while logged on to WordPress and while being logged out.

Logged out: Portfolio displays in the correct proportions (slider and the three newest items nicely horizontally lined up), fonts are correct as well. No problem with block quotes in excerpts (sidebar). However, I have both the default theme colour (red) and my colour (lilac) on site title, menu bar and links (blog posts, “view gallery”). The eye on mouse-over on the galleries doesn’t show either.

Logged on: Portfolio does not display in the correct proportions. It has become slider, two out of three horizontally lined up and the third one has been moved below the newest two. Same problem with the theme colours as when not logged on. Additionally, on mouse-over font colours change between Arial and the Theme fonts on any page at any given time (I know that fonts, if not installed on the pc involved, will not display and it will default to f.i. Arial, they should however not go back and forth like they do now). And the thin lines above and below the block quotes in an excerpt (sidebar) still spill over the main content (in my case behind the photos in my galleries).

Hope it will be of any help…

    Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. To clarify, are you using an installed version of Internet Explorer 8, or Internet Explorer’s Compatibility View?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I am using an installed version of IE 8 (to be exact, 8.0.6001.18702CO, 128-bit). Since I tested the fix on a corporate PC, I don’t have administrator rights either to upgrade the browser or use Firefox as I do at home.

As I have written in an earlier thread, it does not affect the functionality for my own use all that much, I only check my blog in IE 8 when I hear about bugs or there is a fix mentioned on the forums to test it. Everything works fine under Mac OSX Mountain Lion and Safari/Firefox/Google Chrome (at home on my own macbook pro). This is however annoying for those very very few that still have IE 8…or are corporate-wise forced to have IE 8…

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi again :)

Thanks for the information! We have a ticket open for the color-related issue. The eye icon is not intended to display in IE8.

I also wanted to ask, are you noticing these layout issues that you’ve described on any other computer running IE8?

Thanks! I apologize for the hassle :(

I have tried it on another corporate PC (same institution) and I am experiencing the same both logged on and logged off.

    ;(

I am sorry, I wrote this part wrong! I did not mean font colours, I meant the actual fonts! Caught up in the moment of typing things fast…

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the information.

While we don’t officially support IE8, I understand you’ve reported several important issues. I’ve opened a ticket, and we’ll be sure to notify you when we deploy a fix.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

Update: We were not able to recreate the font issue that you’ve described. If you are still seeing this problem, feel free to open a new topic.
