Ideal film specs for opening page

    Hello,

    Can someone advise me on the ideal film size and spec to upload via YouTube for use on the opening page of the Ladder theme, please?

    I’ve got a film running on the site I’m building but it takes a while to load and looks rather low quality. In comparison, the film from the Ladder demo loads rapidly and looks great.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi Ben,

    If it looks good on YouTube should look good on the theme too. Note that Firefox has downgraded YouTube quality for now.

    I’ll look again at YouTube. I’m more concerned with how slow the film loads in comparison to the demo. What are the ideal specs, size and aspect ratio for the film?

    On the theme it is slow to load (fine on YouTube) looks stretched, dark and there’s a jump where the live action goes to a still. Again, this is fine on YouTube.

    Hi Ben,

    Just checked it on your website and it is loading ok, it looks fine to me. It is dark because there is a dark overlay in the theme.
    If you want to remove the overlay on home page the css would be
    .home #overlay {display: none;}

    On the portfolio page, can you have less than eight images but still have them evenly spread out on the page?

    Ideally, we would like to use six.

    I need to revisit my first question about ideal specs (size and type) for the film on the front page. I can’t get the site I am building to load the film on mobile devices.

    Does the video element require a minimum broadband speed?

    Hi Ben,

    YouTube video backgrounds will not load on mobile devices, that’s also explained in the documentation. The theme will fallback to the slider in mobile devices, so you need to configure the slider as well.

    Apologies – I missed that part of the documentation. If I now congfigure the slider, how do I stop that loading as the homepage when viewed on a computer?

    If you have already entered the video url, the slider will display only on mobile devices.
