    Hi there,

    I hope you can help with a query I have about a subscription box. Is it possible to add a pop-up one so when someone visits the page, it appears and they can subscribe? Or is there a way to add a subscription box to the top right side of the page? My blog uses three columns for images and so I don’t have widgets along the right side of the screen.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you :)

    The blog I need help with is: brewandbloom.blog

    Hi there,
    thanks for writing :)

    Subscription is a WordPress.com feature, as theme authors we can only style it and unfortunately there is no way to create a popup with CSS only :(

    I believe the only way to add it is to use the mailchimp popup form:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp/

    Other links about it:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Ricardo,

    Thank you for your reply and help – I’ll have a read through and see what I can do. I’m not looking for a mailchimp newsletter, so would this be suitable to just get subscribers who would receive an email automatically when I create a new post?

    Also – I remembered I had another question after I sent the previous one, but is there a way I can add a search box to the top right – next to my social media icons? I just realised I don’t have a search box which I would find useful.

    Thanks again and have a great weekend!

    Hi,

    yes, I think you can set with Mailchimp a RSS campaign. With WordPress.org that wotks fine, so with WordPress.com it should be work to. Anyway, as this is a third-party service, it could be recommendable to read the doc: https://kb.mailchimp.com/campaigns/blog-posts-in-campaigns/share-your-blog-posts-with-mailchimp and ask a WordPress.com member about this.

    About search, it can be added only in a widget area. However you can try this trick:

    1. Add a new element to the social icon menu with this url:
    https://brewandbloom.blog/?s=brewandbloomsearch

    2. Then add the following CSS to match the above url with search icon:

    .jetpack-social-navigation-genericons a[href*="brewandbloomsearch"]:before {
        content: "\f400";
    }

    3. Finally add this CSS to hide the “nothing found” text from search results:

    body.search-no-results .archive-header h1, body.search-no-results .archive-header p {
        display: none;
    }

    Hope this helps :)

    Hi Ricardo,

    That is amazing – thanks so much I just tried it! I’ll also have a look through the mailchimp RSS things later on.

    Thank you and enjoy your weekend,
