    Hello,
I woild be grateful for some help.

I have just set up the blog (as a website, with static page) and am using the Lifestyle theme.

But I don’t seem to be able to remove some old formatting (which includes a Map, as well as a panel containing: Archives, Log Out, Categories, entries, comments and WordPress).

Would be most grateful for guidance on this.

    Best
    David

The blog I need help with is: fish-oil-update.com

It looks like you’ve found the widgets and removed them.

    Hi Andrea,
    thanks for your quick response.

The other thing I seem to have difficulty with is the hierarchy, as I want to make the blog page, about etc a kind of tier 2 page, so I placed the home page as parent.

But now the file name has: /fish-oil-world/fish-oil-blog

    Is this excessive?

Also, do I need to do anything to the “blog” page to make it show permalinks when I create new pages? or does this happen automatically?

If you make a page a child of another page, it will generate nested permalinks like that.

When you make posts to the blog page, the permalinks are generated for you as well – regardless of theme.

If you switched to a different theme, those links would remain the same.

Is there anything else I need to do to the “Blog” page as I have created another page (fish and heart health) but it does not appear on the blog page (with a permalink to the full page)?

    http://fish-oil-update.com/fish-oil-world/fish-oil-blog/

The blog page doesnt have any of the other pages I have created showing, and the widget I created in the Primary sidebar – to show posts – is not showing any? Have I missed a key stage somehwere? Do I need to create the URL links first, which then appear in the feed on the right?

    See:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

The blog page shows *posts*. It does not show other Pages.

This is the same in all themes.

    thanks for this.

I am trying to find the page for google verification. And it says I need to upload a meta tag to complete the process, but I can’t find this.

You can add the meta tag under Theme Settings -> Header scripts.

    thanks Andrea, I got there.

I want to add text at the foot of every page/post I create – to include a copyright (All Rights Reserved etc) type message as well as a standard disclaimer such as “for educational purposes only etc”

How do I achieve this, without having to add it to each page/post manually? or is there no other way?

There is no extra feature built in to this theme (or any here that I know of) that allows you to edit the footer.

is it possible to edit the theme so that
    a) pages can have tags and categories, and
    b) posts can become pages (by removing the date from the title/file name)

Or can this only be done by changing nameservers and going to another host?

Pages do not have tags and categories.

It sounds like you want to move your page content to posts and your post content to pages.

Moving hosts won’t help with that.

i thought there was a plugin that enables “pages” to be able to have tags and categories (but we cant have plugins at WP.com)

And to be able to install plugins I would have to export to another host. this is what I have read elsewhere. It would also allow me to export my theme as well as the content I have already posted. if this is wrong, please tell me why?

There is a plugin for that, but you will need self hosted.

Again – it sounds like you just want to switch your content around and make pages posts and posts pages.

You can do that here and without a plugin.

actually, what I want is just pages, but in the parent-child relationship i have set up if you see my site (fish-oil-update.com). So if I can have pages (and NO posts) but also with tags and categories, and no dates at all in the file name – that is exactly what I want. I also want to monetise later with Adsense. Both reasons suggest i will need to migrate to self-hosting. I assume I can also take this Lifestyle theme with me.

Tags and categories are for posts.

    Go to self hosted.

Use posts with tags and categories. Change the permalink structure so the date is not there. Remove the dates from the posts if you like – Google can still tell when they are published so if you;re doing that for SEO reasons, they can tell.

You cannot take the theme with you. We have to set you up with an account at Studiopress.
