    I’m changing my blog to the Luxury theme and I’m looking for help to set up the Homepage and Projects pages please.

    1. How do I remove the ‘page like’ buttons on the various Homepage panes ?

    2. I want to recreate the social menu on the Luxury demo, where the social buttons and search bar appear immediately below the main Homepage image. When I try to do this it only offers the footer as a location for the social menu so how can I do this ?

    3. On the Luxury demo there’s a title above the featured posts – ‘Featured Page Example’ – plus text below. How do I do that ?

    4. I followed the instructions for setting up the projects page just like the demo but I can’t seem the recreate the same design where there are 6 images (3 rows of 2). What am I doing wrong ?

    Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated ! My blog is https://wildaboutscotland.com/.

    Thank you

    The blog I need help with is: wildaboutscotland.com

    Hello!

    Let’s review your questions:

    1) You can disable the social icons from showing on the homepage under your sharing settings. You’ll need to make sure the option to show the sharing buttons on the ‘Front Page’ is disabled. For more information see here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/.

    2) Your homepage will need to have a Featured Image assigned to it in order for the social bar to display. Try setting this and making sure you have a social menu assigned to the social menu location and then let me know if it’s still not working for you.

    3) This is actually one of the Featured Pages which is assigned to the Featured Page one location under Customize > Theme Options. The content of that page is showing as if it’s giving a title to the featured posts.

    4) Under Customize > Theme Options have you set the number of columns for the Project Template to two columns? You may just need to reset that option for it to take affect.

    Let me know if there’s anything else. :)

    Cheers,

    Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca,

    Thank you, this is incredibly helpful and has saved me a lot of time. I’ve now managed to make most of these changes. However for (2) I found that even when I added a featured image to the homepage the social menu/search bar stayed in the footer rather than moving further up the page. Having played around with it I actually prefer the look of the homepage without a featured image (since the image showed on the static front page as well as the next pane down). But is there any way to have the social/search bar under the static homepage image without a featured image, as in the demo ?

    Can you please help with a few other queries please ? Is there a way to increase the font size on the ‘Contact’ button on my homepage? I think I originally set it up with a larger font but somehow it’s appearing small now. Also, is there a way to increase the font size for the left and right menu titles on the homepage?

    On my Projects page (under the ‘Explore’ menu) the Mountain Leader page is showing a video as the featured image even though I set a photo as the featured image. I’m can’t understand why it’s overriding that.

    Finally, there’s an example of the Luxury theme on the Organic Themes website (http://www.saltlakebrideandgroom.com/). I know this is probably hosted on WordPress.org but I really like the shortened summary of posts (under ‘Latest Content’). Is there any way modify the Luxury theme on WordPress.com to do this?

    Thanks !

    Hello!

    The search and social bar should display bellow the featured image of the homepage when a featured page one is assigned as well as content added in the page using the Home Page Template. Otherwise, it’s not possible to have it display differently or without these settings in place. The demo uses the featured image for the homepage so that would need to be recreated.

    If you’re seeing the social bar at the bottom of the page, can you put this back up so I can confirm what the problem may be? I’m not seeing this on your site currently.

    For your other questions:

    1) You can increase the font size of the contact button with the following CSS:

    a.button {
        font-size: 1.2em;
    }

    Edit as required.

    2) You can increase the font-size for the navigation with the following CSS:

    #navigation {
        font-size: 0.9em;
    }

    Edit as desired.

    3) That was a bug in the theme, a fix was launched over the weekend so it shouldn’t be happening anymore.

    4) I’m afraid that theme is heavily customized so it wouldn’t be possible to get it to look the same on your site as editing templates is not possible on WP.com.

    Thank you,

    Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca,

    Bingo! I managed to get the search bar and social menu to show up once I added some content to the homepage as well as the featured image – I didn’t have any content before and that seemed to make the difference. Looks much neater now.

    I’m afraid I can’t work out how to make the CSS (html?) changes you’ve suggested. Would you possibly be able to insert the code on the right pages and then I can experiment with the sizing?

    The bug has ironed itself out for 3) – thank you.

    I thought that would be the answer for 4).

    thanks again.

    Hello!

    The CSS will need to added by you exactly as provided under Customize > Custom CSS. You’ll see this field if you’re using WordPress Premium, otherwise I’m afraid these changes aren’t possible without Custom CSS.

    Copy the code as provided in the field I mention and it should change these on your pages directly. I don’t have access to these so you’ll need to go ahead and paste it directly.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Rebecca. I’m afraid I don’t have Premium which explains why I couldn’t work out how to make the changes. I’ll just leave things as they are. Thanks again for all your help.

    Oh, that makes sense now. :)

    There should be an option to increase the font-size of the ‘Contact Us’ text just in the text editor of the page in question. You would want to add something like this:

    <div style="font-size: 95px;">
    <a class="button" href="https://wildaboutscotland.com/contact/"><strong>Contact</strong></a>
    </div>

    Wrapping the button in it’s own div will give you the option to set the font for that specific text.

    Otherwise, the navigation font can’t be edited without Custom CSS.

    If there’s anything else don’t hesitate to ask.

    Cheers from Invergowrie, Dundee. I’ll know where to look now for some more Scottish adventures. :)

    Thanks!

    Great, thanks Rebecca – using the code in the text editor worked for me.

    Wow, Invergowrie … just up the road from me … I thought you’d be somewhere over the Atlantic ?!

    Glad to hear that worked out for you!

    We came over to Scotland a few years ago and it’s beauty has kept us here since. :) Maybe we’ll cross paths one day!

    Let me know if there’s anything else we can help with.

    This particular thread has been very helpful with CSS snippets, thanks guys.

    Rebecca when I set a featured image for the Homepage it also is displaying behind my Posts carousel. How do I remove it from this area so the carousel sits on a field of hwite, like the demo and other sites I’ve seen in this forum?

    Thank you!! I’m prepping everything in WP.com and then moving to WP.org after I’ve familiarized w/Luxury, just in case you wondered why I’m pestering you in both support forums :)

    nevermind i figured it out -> in Customizer the “Home Template Featured Page One” needs to be undefined, I had it set to the same page that was serving as my home page so it was duplicating that Featured Image.

    Hello workforcevideos,

    Glad to hear you were able to get this figured out. You can assign a different page as your first featured page and as long as you don’t have a featured image assigned to this then it will display as shown in the demo. Any content to that page would display over the slider.

    If you’re preparing on WP.com to transfer to WP.org, please keep in mind that both themes are built differently and that the WP.com theme cannot be transferred to your self-hosted site.

    Thanks!

    Rebecca
