Home page formatting

    Hello Taras,

    I am trying to do some customization on my home page to enable a better mobile experience – particularly for the Featured Pages #1 and #2, i.e. the way that I’ve configured my site, the grid-page layout works great on a desktop for the Featured Pages; however, in the mobile view, there is too much to scroll through as all of the content is displayed in a continuous single column – as such, I’m wondering about these possibilities:

    1) Is it possible to display the mobile view of the grid-page for Feature #1 and #2 as a 2-column view with small-thumbnails in MOBILE VIEW ONLY?
    2) How can I edit and/or remove the social media sharing buttons from Feature #1 on the Home Page, but keep them in the Hero image area?
    3) Is there a way to edit the fonts for the titles of selected pages? and for only part of the title? I.e. maybe a larger font for the first section of the title and smaller for the second section? Title of page in larger font>>”Feature Page #:”, then Title of page in smaller font>>>”words of sub-title”?

    Also, is there a way (or specific syntax) to do a “search” on the premium themes forum?

    The site is called churchwonders.com

    Thanks much for your help,

    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,

    “Is it possible to display the mobile view of the grid-page for Feature #1 and #2 as a 2-column view with small-thumbnails in MOBILE VIEW ONLY?”
    – Please try this custom CSS:

    @media (max-width: 992px) {
      .grid-wrapper {
        display: flex;
        flex-wrap: wrap;
      }
      .grid-wrapper .three-columns {
        width: 50%;
      }
      .grid-wrapper .grid-sep {
        display: none;
      }
    }

    Please note, this custom CSS will probably stop working once a major version of the theme is released. In this case, you can always open a new thread in this forum and I will be happy to help.

    “How can I edit and/or remove the social media sharing buttons from Feature #1 on the Home Page, but keep them in the Hero image area?”
    – The easiest way to hide it in the Featured Page #1 is to use a custom CSS:

    .featured-page-one .sharedaddy {
      display: none;
    }

    You can also check this documentation page if you want to learn more about share buttons functionality at WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/sharing/

    “Is there a way to edit the fonts for the titles of selected pages?”
    – By default, WordPress does not provide such options but we can use a custom CSS to change styles of a title for a specific page.

    Could you please post a link to one of your pages where you want to edit the font of your title, so I can use this page as an example?

    “… and for only part of the title? I.e. maybe a larger font for the first section of the title and smaller for the second section? “
    – It’s only possible by using HTML tags in the page title. There are no other ways to break your title into separate sections without using a custom solution.

    WordPress.com allows only a few tags to be used in the page title. One of them is b tag. Note, you can add HTML tags to the title only when using the Code editor. See a screenshot: https://snipboard.io/MXuoe8.jpg

    Once the tag is added, we need to use a custom CSS to make style changes to the title.

    For example (where 1103 is ID of the page: https://wordpress.com/support/pages/#how-to-find-the-page-id):

    .page-id-1103 .entry-title b {
      display: block;
      font-weight: normal;
      margin-top: 0.25em;
      font-size: 18px;
    }

    I know, it sounds complex but there is no other way at the moment to break the title.

    Also, please note that the search engines will show your full title (without tags and sections) in searches.

    There is a downside of using this solution. It will cause issues for the breadcrumbs (if it’s enabled on your site): https://snipboard.io/bv9nZg.jpg

    “Also, is there a way (or specific syntax) to do a “search” on the premium themes forum?”
    – I am afraid not. I hope WordPress.com team will improve a search functionality in the near future.

    Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Kind regards,
    Taras

    Hi Taras,

    I love the 2-column view on MOBILE! Thank you!

    I’m also grateful for the CSS to remove the sharing buttons for Feature #1.

    I need to do some additional thinking about the fonts. Let me spend some more time on this.

    My site is called churchwonders.com

    Thanks again,

    Jeff

    Hi Taras,

    I read through the documentation about the share buttons, but it seems that the customization via the “marketing” settings are applied to all of the buttons throughout the site.

    How does one control the buttons on a specific page or pages?

    Here is the original question and response:

    Hi Jeff,

    “How does one control the buttons on a specific page or pages?”
    – It can be disabled using the Block editor (sidebar) when editing a specific page or pages: https://wordpress.com/support/sharing/#disabling-sharing-likes-on-specific-posts

    Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Thank you,
    Taras
