    Hello !

    I’m using the Bari theme on my blog http://www.myoxybubble.com/.
    I use a picture for the logo, the title and the slogan of my Blog.
    So i didn’t fill the fields for the title and the slogan in the admin interface.

    But the SEO is not very good and perhaps it’s in relation of this.
    I would like to know if it is possible to fill this 2 field but to not display them on the page.

    If there is no relation with this, where i can put the right name of my blog ?
    Because on Google results it’s write for the title “Abonnez-vous à mon blog” and don’t know how to change this.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks a lot for your help.

    The blog I need help with is myoxybubble.com.

    Hi there,

    Yes, there is no need to empty out your site title and tagline because there is a way to hide those from display while keeping them in your <title> tag used by search engines, etc.

    Here’s how:

    1) Go to your site’s Customizer

    2) In Customizer, go to the Site Identity panel (should be the top one).

    3) In the Site Identity panel in Customizer, fill out your Site Title and Tagline again.

    4) Uncheck the “Display Site Title and Tagline” box right below.

    Let me know how this works out for you!

    Regards,
    Leland

    Hi Leland,

    Thank you for your reply.
    But I don’t see anywhere a “Display Site Title and Tagline” box in the Site identity panel.

    Hmm, I just took a screenshot of what the Customizer panel should look like: https://cloudup.com/cumotextnOn

    That checkbox that the red arrow is pointing to should be unchecked, in your case, since you want to hide the Site Title and Tagline and not display them.

    If you still don’t see it in the expected place, I will tag WordPress.com Staff to help figure out what’s going on.

    I’m in the same Customizer panel but i don’t have this checkbox.
    I’m using Safari. I will try later with another web navigator.

    Hmm, okay. I just checked in Safari (on Mac) and I see it there too. Normally I use Firefox or Chrome (also on Mac), maybe one of those would be worth a try?

    I’m not sure what is going on so I’m going to tag WordPress.com Staff to see if they can help figure out what’s happening.

    Best regards,
    Leland

    Hi,
    I tested with Chrome on a PC instead of my usual safari on MAC and the result is the same : i can’t see that checkbox.

    Hi Sabrina,

    Thanks for the report. It must not be something browser or operating system related then.

    I have flagged WordPress.com staff about this so we’ll have to hang tight until they get a chance to look into it.

    I did think of the idea that because your site title and tagline is already empty, the option to hide them is hidden because there is nothing to hide.

    However, I temporarily removed the site title and tagline on the Bari Demo site and I still saw the checkbox anyway.

    I’m a bit stumped why we’re seeing different things but I’m sure we’ll get to the bottom of this in due time.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Best regards,
    Leland

    Hmm, interesting. I even just tried changing my “Interface Language” to French to see if I could recreate the issue. No luck, unfortunately. Still see the checkbox.

    Hopefully WordPress.com staff will have a chance to look at this soon. :)

    Hi there,

    I have some good news. I think I finally realized what is going on.

    I didn’t think that you may be using a self-hosted WordPress site with Jetpack. I have confirmed the issue on my self-hosted WordPress demo.

    While I look into this, you can use the following CSS code to hide the site title and tagline in a SEO-friendly way:

    body .site-title,
    body .site-description {
        position: absolute;
        clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);
    }

    I’m still not sure why the checkbox isn’t showing up on self-hosted sites, however, this will solve your issue in the meantime (it’s the exact same code that checking the checkbox would add to your site) so there is no need to wait for me to figure out the checkbox.

    Very sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience.

    Regards,
    Leland

    Hi great news !

    Thanks you so much for your help !
    Effectively I’m using a self-hosted wordpress site with Jetpack.
    Sorry to not mentioned it, I didn’t think that could impact the display of the customizer panel.

    I paste the code in the CSS add-on of the customizer panel and it works very well.
    Could you just say me in which file I have to paste this code on my local site ? Because if I need to upload new version of my files, I don’t want to overwrite the modification.
    I’m using a child theme.

    Thanks again !!

    It’s no problem! I didn’t think it would impact Customizer either, but I guess it does. What matters now is the problem was finally diagnosed. :)

    Using the CSS add-on is a great way to preserve changes after theme updates. If you want to use a child theme, there are a few different ways of doing it.

    I see you are already enqueuing an empty child theme stylesheet here, in addition to the parent theme stylesheet: http://www.myoxybubble.com/wp-content/themes/bari-child/style.css

    Adding your customizations to bari-child/style.css would have the same effect, just as long as you continue to enqueue bari/style.css and don’t edit it, as this file may change (and be overridden) in the future.

    OK, perfect !
    It was what I thought but I preferred to have confirmation from you.

    Thank you so much !

    I mark the topic as resolved now
