    Hi binarymoon,

    I used your Broadway theme for a long time and just switched to one of your other themes.

    A few questions, please.

    The exact same four “related posts” appear on all of my blog articles. Before, they were all different and appeared to be at random based on tags.

    I’d like to use CSS coding to have any comments by me on my blog to have a gray background. The CSS coding I used for this in Broadway does not seem to be working.

    I’d also like any quotes done (using the block quote feature in the editor) to have a gray background, too.

    I was also wondering if there was a way to remove and/or change the text that says “Recent Posts.”

    Is there a way to possibly remove the “featured posts” at the top? I like it but am not exactly sure what I want to do with it.

    I’m also wondering if it might be possible to have the actual icons under the social media links.

    Finally, Please see this screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6t31fzr3y1vfv9f/example.png?dl=0 – When I first go to my page in a new window or after visiting another page, that large gray area appears until I visit another location on the page and come back to it.

    Thanks so much! I really like this theme. It’s very easy to read and looks great! I appreciate your time. I think this is everything – it just takes me a little time to get everything just so. :)

    Sorry for the numerous posts but wanted to update you! I just get anxious when setting up a new theme. I was on a roll and figured out the CSS for the comments and block quotes shading. I chatted with WordPress here and they helped with a few things but said that the problem where the same four blog articles are listed under related content on every blog appeared to be something with the theme.
    Thank you, Andrew

    Hi, I have a business account with wordpress. I continue to make progress but would love your input, too, when you can. I like the template more and more!

    Here’s the important stuff:

    Apparently, it seems there is some sort of glitch in wordpress and/or the template – the “related posts”/“related content” – that shows related blogs at the end of each blog is not working. It shows the same four—recent blogs—with every post. It works perfect on the Broadway theme/template.

    Question: Can the featured tag section be hidden? Those post frequently do not display correctly. The text runs together/etc as shown on this screenshot (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p40bt8u2n8oq2ue/feat%20tag%202.png?dl=0) or there is extra space as on this screenshot (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6t31fzr3y1vfv9f/feat%20tag1.png?dl=0)

    When all posts by a certain tag are pulled up or the archives for a specific month or search results are pulled up, they display in two columns and frequently look “weird” – text runs into each other and other things – screenshot here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vn9t4glr7hnglxr/tag.png?dl=0). Is it possible to have such posts in one column? And to have these on auto scroll? Or to fix the spacing/formatting?

    On the homepage, the light gray line that separates posts is missing between blog posts on auto scroll when it goes to the next “page.” Can this be fixed?

    Suggestions:

    In the search box at the top, on some other themes it says “search” in this box until clicked. Is this a possibility for this template?

    Thank you so much. Really appreciate it.

    And again, sorry for the numerous posts – I have a somewhat high amount of traffic and want everything to look fresh and professional.

    Hi Andrew

    Thanks for the messages. There’s a lot to get through here.

    First things first – there’s an admin panel in the theme that may not be obvious.

    You can see the settings for your site here:
    https://andrewpegoda.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=opti_classic_options&tab=opti_homepage

    On this page you can disable the themes related posts and change a few other settings.

    I’ve numbered the other queries to make them easier to reference to.

    1. Did you fix the comments and blockquote colours? I checked your site and the ones I found had grey backgrounds.

    2. To hide the recent posts text:

    #recent-posts h3 {
    display: none;
    }

    3. To remove the featured posts remove the featured tag in the customizer. However, if I remember correctly, this section will then revert to displaying the most recent post.

    4. I’m not sure what you are referring to regarding the social media links?

    5. The featured content slider uses the height of the tallest slide for all the slides so if one of the taller slides is visible then the box will be taller and have some empty space on it. I will look into the issue with the text being cropped. That shouldn’t happen.

    6. The display of the archives page you screenshotted looks a bit strange. I shall see if I can reproduce and fix it. If I can’t then I can give you some css to make it a single column.

    7. I think I can fix the missing border on infinite scroll on the homepage.

    8. Search text in the search box. It’s not possible to add this with css. I’ll see about adding it to the theme code.

    Thank you.

    I did find that admin panel and played with a few settings there. No matter what I do, I can’t get blog posts to correctly display “related posts”/”related content” at the end of each blog.

    I did figure out, after having fun and playing around with the settings, the css coding for having a gray background for quotes and comments I make.

    3. It does revert to showing the most recent post, which is fine.

    4. I figured out, with some css coding and whatnot, a work around and have it in effect now.

    6. That coding would be great, I think.

    Thank you again. Talk to you again soon.

    Regarding the related posts – the only option is to hide them unfortunately. The theme was first designed before WordPress.com had their own related posts system and so it supports a custom version that’s not as good :(

    6. The simplest solution is this:

    .archive article, .search article {
    width: 100%;
    }

    You will probably need to refresh the page in the customizer to see this take effect.

    7. I have submitted a fix for this which should be live now.

    8. Am looking into this

    Thank you!! Will try everything out when I get to my computer. I’m on my iPhone now.

    Would there be any way to update the theme please such that the related posts would work. (I still don’t understand why it’s displaying the four it does.) At this point, that’s the only thing the theme lacks to be perfect. This theme has a look unlike all the others that is simple and clear in the best ways possible.

    5. I removed the featured tag. It now shows the most recent post. It’s still showing tons of extra space or showing the text cut off and/or run together.

    6. Works perfect and looks great!

    7. It works perfect on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. There does seem to be a really minor thing where the text runs against that line when the screen size gets to a certain (small) size. Screen shot example here on my iPhone (https://www.dropbox.com/s/8dc7jjze0abrirh/iphone.PNG?dl=0). I tried to duplicate it on my Apple laptop and it only happens when the window gets really small, about the iPhone size. Not a big deal.

    thanks!

    7. I’ve submitted a bug fix for this.

    8. I’ve submitted a code change for this.

    We may need to wait a couple of days (since it’s the weekend) so that the wordpress.com team can ensure the code changes are ok.

    Regarding the related posts and making use of the default .com ones – I don’t know if I can change anything here unfortunately. I shall ask the wordpress.com team what is possible.

    Thanks so much.

    I look forward to seeing what they say about the related posts feature.

    Wanted to check and see, please, if there were any updates yet? It seems like Opti is currently one of the few themes that doesn’t support the related post feature.
    Thanks so much. Other than this, I’ve got everything set up and functioning perfectly. You make a great theme! :)

    Hi there – well I’ve asked them and given them a rough proposal for how we could change it – and I am waiting for them to get back to me. If I don’t hear back by early next week I will follow up with them.

    I think I just found something that appears to be a glitch in the theme that is semi-urgent since it’s greatly limiting my ability to “advertise” posts on Facebook.

    For a week or two or so, I’ve noticed that regularly when I post to Facebook, it does’t post correctly. For example, please see this screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1vpibs9oxb5ws6u/blank%20post.png?dl=0

    It should post more like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lzv03ez5z9wjl12/reg%20fb%20post.png?dl=0

    I kept playing around with different settings and figured out that posts I made before switching to this theme always post correctly. Post I made using this theme post correctly maybe 10% of the time, if even that.

    Thank you for your help

    pegodaaj – that does look like the same issue, and it’s not theme-related. Stay tuned for updates here.

    Hi @pegodaaj – I am afraid the answer from the wordpress.com theme team is that they don’t want to make the change since it could affect too many existing sites.

    I have replied with a suggestion for how we could do it without affecting anyone but I suspect they will still say no.

    Sorry about that :(

    Hey there, thanks for the followup. Maybe they’ll surprise us. :)

    A few questions/thoughts please.

    Do they mean it would affect to many sites using the Opti theme? If so, I’d guess they too would like the (new) feature and would still have the option of turning it off.

    Would creating an Opti 2.0 be possible maybe with the only difference being that three related posts would display at the end of blog articles?

    If none of this works, what’s the status on the older built in feature that shows four related posts? When I tried it, it only displayed the four most recent blogs no matter what I did or what article I pulled up.

    Thanks so much!

    It would affect all sites on wordpress.com that use Opti. There’s currently a little under 2000 of them

    Unfortunately not. WordPress.com do not support this for premium theme authors.

    If none of this works, what’s the status on the older built in feature that shows four related posts? When I tried it, it only displayed the four most recent blogs no matter what I did or what article I pulled up.

    The feature should load the 4 most recent posts from the categories that the current post is in. So, as long as you categorise your content, the suggested posts should be related to the current post.

    :( :(

    On the last point, I have 500+ articles and have grouped them all in one category – I use tags to separate and “categorize” my writing.
