Follow Blog Widget

  • Hi again. I just realized that the “Follow” button doesn’t work on my blog, elisaruland.com. The text on Follow footer widget doesn’t reflect what the text reads on the widget page in admin. There isn’t anywhere for readers to add their email addresses, and once “follow” is pressed, a message is displayed (which isn’t complete) that says they’ll get an email confirming the follow – which doesn’t happen. I have a couple of non-blogger friends who made me aware of the problem. If you could instruct me how to fix this issue, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Hello Elisa,

    I just had a quick look and tried to subscribe with fake email address and from my own account and both were successful subscriptions. Also I can see it working fine on our sandbox/demo site.

    I’m not entirely sure what might be going wrong there for you, so am tagging this thread with wpcomstaff for WordPress support team to have a look at.

  • Hi there, and thanks for responding so quickly. I figured out part of the problem – I needed to be signed-out of my account to get the proper sign-up information. However, there may be some confusion with the white box where the subscriber enters their email information. The footer background is black (which I love!) the email sign-up box is white, but the text within the box is white also, so its not clear that this is where you enter the email address. Is there a way to make this text black without affecting the white text in the rest of the footer? Also when a “thank you” notice appears, the last few words of the message are also in white text so the sentence sort of trails off. It starts: Thank you…….. then ends with “If you don’t get it please _________________________. Then the rest of the text is white. Again, I think this stems from the footer text being white. I’m hoping there is an easy fix for this. Thank you for your help! I’m enjoying the Blink theme and have received several compliments on the layout.

  • Hello Elisa,

    I noticed that too while testing the widget. But again, its not as same as it is on our end.

    That might be happening mostly because of the custom color settings or the custom CSS added to your site.

    Can you try setting the values to default in your customizer to see if it works properly?

  • Yes, I returned the color value to default. This did fix the second issue, the “Thank you for following, etc.” There were no blank spots in the text…all good there. The first issue, where a subscriber enters their email address was still in white text, and when new text is entered it’s still in white on white.

    I’m fine with keeping the default color, but I wonder if the fill-in “enter email” text can be changed to black. Or is this an issue with my browser (safari) I wonder.

  • Hello again,

    This isn’t a browser related issue, but customisation. However, the results are just fine at our end. Either way here’s a bit of custom CSS that you can add to fix it:

    .widget_blog_subscription input[type="text"] { color: #000; }

    Hope it helps. Thanks.

  • Thanks, I’ll do it. I appreciate your help.
