Featured image – text size and font size

    Hi there! :)

    I am wondering if it’s possible to change the text size and maybe even the font (it’s different from the one that’s used for posts) on the featured image.

    Also about the size, but this time of the featured image. The demo has this huuuge image that takes all the main area – mine only get as big as it is published right now. Can I change the are that’s limited to it, so it’s also full sized like the demo?

    Another little doubt: the demo shows up a description, besides the title on the featured image. When I tried to do this, I messed it all (including the text at the page I created to be set as featured). How did you do that? :O

    I am just about to show the website and I guess it’s these little details I’d like to change!

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Lygia,

    Thanks for checking with us on these questions, let’s review:

    1. I am wondering if it’s possible to change the text size and maybe even the font (it’s different from the one that’s used for posts) on the featured image.
    – Yes, this is possible if you have the “Custom Design” upgrade. In which case you can add your own custom CSS/styles to the theme’s stylesheet. For example, if you would like to change the Post title’s font size on the homepage, you could add this to the CSS area of the “Custom Design ” upgrade:

    .items-list .entry-title {
    font-size: 1.8em;
    }

    2. Also about the size, but this time of the featured image. The demo has this huuuge image that takes all the main area – mine only get as big as it is published right now. Can I change the are that’s limited to it, so it’s also full sized like the demo?
    – Are you referring to the featured image on the top of the homepage? If yes, you could increase the size/height by uploading a larger image — for example the image on our demo is 1024 x 1024 px.

    3. Another little doubt: the demo shows up a description, besides the title on the featured image. When I tried to do this, I messed it all (including the text at the page I created to be set as featured). How did you do that? :O
    – To mimic or create the same setup that we have on the theme demo, you can set this up by using a standard Page. Create your page, add your text/copy, then add a Featured Image (which will display as your top header image), ours is currently at 1024 × 1024. The main content of page will display below the title.

    Then within the Appearance –> Customize options, under Theme Options you can set your “Page for intro…” which will then display that page on the homepage.

    Hi Travis! Thanks for your kind answer :)
    It took me a little while to get back here ’cause I was trying to work on the website texts.

    So, let’s do it:

    1. For this, I meant more about the header text size. Is it possible to make it a little bigger?

    2. For the image size, a friend who is doing the design is taking care of it, I’ll test it soon – thanks!

    3. It worked! Thank you again! I just have to figure what to write to make it amazing. :)

    Can I include another little doubt here? I may open a new topic if needed.

    // How can I add a Twitter and perhaps even Facebook and Instagram buttons on the left side, just below the Menu button, like on your demo? I’d LOVE to do that!

    Thanks, thanks, thanks!

    OH MY! Also I’d like to include the Share buttons you have just over the featured image and below the button More About Clear News.

    By the way, if I can finally find an amazing and short description for my blog, how could I include the “More About” button with a portuguese message and a link to my About page?

    God, sorry for bothering you SO much. :/

    Cheers!

    Hi lygia,

    No problem at all, thanks for the message and response. Let’s review your additional questions:

    1. For this, I meant more about the header text size. Is it possible to make it a little bigger?
    – Yep, you can increase the font size. To do so, you will need to follow the previous instructions I posted above. Unless you are referring to a different header text that you would like to change?

    2. For the image size, a friend who is doing the design is taking care of it, I’ll test it soon – thanks!
    – Great :)

    3. It worked! Thank you again! I just have to figure what to write to make it amazing. :)
    – No problem!

    4. How can I add a Twitter and perhaps even Facebook and Instagram buttons on the left side, just below the Menu button, like on your demo? I’d LOVE to do that!
    – The current version of the Clear News theme is compatible with Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ only. To setup these icons, you will first need to configure the Sharing setting within the Settings > Sharing area. Then set the Appearance > Customize setting, under Connect to “link” your social media accounts to the icons.

    Check out these screenshots to help a bit:

    I’m back, Travis! :O

    So, new doubts:

    1. By “header” I focus on saying the text that’s over the featured image (the title from the page created specially for the home). Is it possible to make it bigger, as I can on the posts texts?

    2. I got a new design but it’s still cutting off half the image, so it doesn’t fill all the “front” page. What I’d like here is to make only the featured image appear, among the text over it, when the visitor get to my blog. Right now it looks like this: http://aviagemcomoelae.com/

    3. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. By Facebook and maybe Instagram Icons I meant not to share the content, but to proper link the social network. On clear news demo, you have a Twitter icon just under the menu icon on the top left :)

    Sorry for bothering again! And thanks one more time :)

    Cheers,
    Lygia

    Hi Lygia,

    It’s great to hear from you! No problem, let’s see if we can get these items cleared up for you:

    1. By “header” I focus on saying the text that’s over the featured image (the title from the page created specially for the home). Is it possible to make it bigger, as I can on the posts texts?
    – Yes, you can increase the text size here, by adding a bit of CSS within the “Custom Design” area of your admin panel. This bit of CSS would work in order to accomplish increasing this text size:

    body, .marquee-body a, .marquee-body h1 {
    font-size: 55px;
    }

    2. I got a new design but it’s still cutting off half the image, so it doesn’t fill all the “front” page. What I’d like here is to make only the featured image appear, among the text over it, when the visitor get to my blog. Right now it looks like this: http://aviagemcomoelae.com/
    – Sounds good, this item would also require adding a bit of custom CSS to the theme. For making the marquee image “taller” you could add something like this to the Custom Design CSS area (feel free to play with the pixel height to find something that would work well for you):

    .marquee {
    height: 700px;
    }

    3. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. By Facebook and maybe Instagram Icons I meant not to share the content, but to proper link the social network. On clear news demo, you have a Twitter icon just under the menu icon on the top left :)
    – No problem. Yep, the instructions above are regarding adding the Facebook and Twitter icons that appear on the left-hand side of the theme, just under the menu icon. However, the only integrations that are currently available are Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

    Thanks again,
    Travis

    Hi, Travis :)

    Thank you again!

    So:

    1. it worked! but… the fonts get bigger for the post titles as well :O I just tried to leave the text out and going for a design with the writing in the featured image, but on my iPhone the website doesn’t resize well. that said,

    1.1. is there a code I can insert so the featured image resizes better on all devices?

    2. perfect! YAY!

    3. worked as well! but I’m wondering if there’s a way I can keep the Facebook button (please have Instagram sharing soon, btw!) without automatically sharing every post I publish to my Facebook page?

    obrigada!

    cheers,
    Lygia

    Hi lygia,
    Thanks for the response. Let’s review:

    1.1. is there a code I can insert so the featured image resizes better on all devices?
    – This would take a bit of additional work to change and revise how the main featured image resizes, but you could try adding additional CSS to the Custom Design area. For example, something like this:

    @media (max-width: 992px)
    .marquee {
    padding: 40px 0 100px;
    height: 200px !important;
    }

    2. perfect! YAY!

    3. worked as well! but I’m wondering if there’s a way I can keep the Facebook button (please have Instagram sharing soon, btw!) without automatically sharing every post I publish to my Facebook page?

    – Thanks for checking on this. Unfortunately the sharing options are part of WordPress.com’s setup and functionality. I believe you can login to your Facebook sharing/privacy settings and turn off the option to auto-post from WordPress.com to FB however.

    Thanks again,
    Travis
