Featured Image & Menu Rows Questions
Hi there, I’m considering using the Hyalite theme for my video portfolio. If I use a featured image for the thumbnail, will it also automatically appear at the top of a video post above the actual video? I’m having that issue with the current theme I’m using.
Also, do both menu rows (e.g. the Home/Projects/Blog row and the All/Branding/Typography/Web row in your example) always appear in Hyalite? Or is there a way to just have one row? I’m trying to figure out how it would look if I don’t use the Star logo and if there’s essentially a way to have my name, maybe a brief description, a single menu row, and then on to the thumbnails.
The blog I need help with is kenfurer.com.
Hi there! Sorry for the late reply.
Setting a featured image will display the image above the post title and content on Pages and Posts with an Image post format.
If a post has a Video post format, the theme will grab the first video URL and display the video above post title on archive pages.
Here is how a Video post format looks on singular pages.
The Primary and Archive menus you mentioned are using Custom Menus. If you don’t assign a menu to one of those locations, it will not show.
The logo area is also optional and can be set via the Customizer.
Thank you! Do you have an example of how a video post appears on the main portfolio or home page? (in thumbnail view before you click to open that page)
Also, is there a way to use a custom thumbnail image on the main page or does it automatically need to be the embedded video’s existing thumbnail (e.g. the existing YouTube thumbnail with the red play button for YouTube videos)?
And finally do you have an example of how the main portfolio or home page looks without both the Primary and Archive menus?
A video post will display the same on the homepage as it does on the blog page.
If you’re using a static front page for the home page, you can add a video to the content area. In this case, the video will appear large, as it does on regular pages.
The videos show the actual video player, so a custom thumbnail isn’t used. YouTube allows you to set a thumbnail for each video, so you can adjust that there if you’d like. Other video services, like Vimeo, may have similar options.
If a menu isn’t set, it won’t show. I don’t have examples of this anywhere though.
