Featured Content not appearing on Home page

    Hi,

I am having trouble with the front page. The featured content does not appear. I have followed the steps described in the support section for this theme. I have double checked that the tags correspond and that the Home page is static, with the correct template. Still, there is no featured content on the front of my site. I really hope you can look into this. I have also read the topics here regarding similar problems, but I could not figure out how to fix this on my own.

I have previously used a couple of other themes (Blask and Pictorico), and started out with posts for each project I wanted to display. Realized I should take advantage of the portfolio feature. Now I have copied the content into the portfolio section instead, and moved the posts to the trash. Not sure this is of any relevance to you, but in case something could have happened during this process (a few posts were sticky posts in the previous theme), I thought you should know.

    Thanks,
    Torill Stranger

    Hi there,

Thanks so much for brining this to our attention.
I’ve included the WordPress.com team in this thread to review as well. We have not been able to reproduce this.

We will both be taking a look into this and let you know what we find.

    Thanks,
    Angela

torillstranger – I don’t see any published posts on your site, they’re all drafts. Posts need to be published in order to appear in the Featured Content Area. Could you please try publishing at least two featured posts?

cecifrost – could you provide a link to your WordPress.com site running Creative so I can take a look.

Hi kathrynwp, thanks for your reply. Publishing one of my draft posts certainly worked – I shall have to take a look at other topics about blurry images as well, haha. But sticking with this topic: I thought portfolio projects would show as Featured Content, too, if tagged correctly? Is it possible to have the image in the featured content area point to an actual portfolio project, as my main goal with the website is?

    All the best,
    Torill

    Glad that did the trick.

I’ll let Angela confirm this, but it looks like Creative only supports posts in featured content, not portfolio projects or pages.

    Hi Torill,

Glad Kathryn got you taken care of regarding the blog posts.
You can add both posts and portfolio to the featured slider.
Once two or more Posts or Portfolio items have the specified tag, then the slider will appear on the homepage.

Check out the homepage slider and featured content documentation here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/creative/support/

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi,
ok, thanks, but now I am confused. I initially thought the portfolio projects should appear in the slider, but since they did not, I started this topic. I had three portfolio projects tagged with the same tag set in the Customizer when I contacted you – as described in the Getting started guide for this theme.

Then, based on your reply yesterday I thought only blog posts would work. Not sure what to conclude with now, and I really hope I could make this work with portfolio projects only. I still have three portfolio projects tagged, and four blog posts. Only the blog posts appear in the slider. I am not quite content with that sollution.

Looks like you’ve added the “featured” tag as a Portfolio Tag, not a post tag.

If the theme does support portfolio projects then it would likely be using the regular post tags to do so, not the Portfolio Tags, but again Angela can confirm this. You can also add the tag “featured” to the post tags area and see if the project shows up in the featured content area.

    Hi Torill,

Sorry for the confusion, yes you an tag posts and portfolio items to show within the homepage slider.

Here’s what the posts tag area will look like: http://lift.d.pr/1ai1O/1ezQnYC7

Here’s where you will tag within portfolio items:

Just make sure that the tag is the same.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
    Have a great day!
