Featured Content & Differences with the Demo

    Hello,

I’m new to using wordpress, so I’m sorry if these questions are stupid. I tried following the setup page, and I have nothing close to what the demo pictures look like for the Romero theme.

    The website is http://daijouboo.com

My first question is with the featured content at the top of the page. I have selected a tag on the home page and on the post, however nothing has changed. Here are some images the help illustrate my point https://imgur.com/a/EDqFF0w

My second question is with spacing on posts. I really like the overlap of the post and the featured image on the posts itself like on the demo, but on my posts there is a gap. Is this due to the size of the featured image, or something else? Here are some more pictures to illustrate my point: https://imgur.com/a/swlxllw

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: daijouboo.com

Hi there – thanks for the message.

It looks like you are using a static page for the homepage layout.

To match the demo site you will need to switch to using blog posts for the homepage. There’s info on how to do this here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/

For the second problem – that was a bug in the theme (that I had not seen before). I’ve fixed that for you.

    Thanks – Ben

    Hey Ben

Thank you for fixing that bug, it’s looking nice and flush now.

I’ve also changed the homepage off of the static option https://imgur.com/ACVBb6P However, I’ve lost the ability to edit the page after making that change. It also changed the format as well, as I have lost the blocky grid style that was under the featured image. Am I missing something?

    Thanks – Justin

The dynamic homepage is entirely dynamic. There’s no way to edit the content on it unfortunately. It’s a choice of one or the other I’m afraid.

The white grid under the featured image (like on the demo) will happen automatically. The content is all featured content so as you add more featured posts they will fill up the grid naturally.

    Thanks – Ben

I see! I didn’t have enough featured posts for it to add the white box like in the Demo. I added some more featured posts, and it changed to what I was looking for. Thank you!

Sorry for asking so many questions, I hope it’s not bothering you, but I have two more things.

When I click on the menu/page options, my posts are lacking the tag (such as news, review, etc.) and the post date looks different. I’m not seeing any options for changing those, and I made sure that my posts were tagged with review. Here’s some pictures to help: https://imgur.com/a/rQbqjfs

Also, I know that you said the dynamic page is entirely dynamic and I can’t edit it, but I was hoping to get the search and archive feature on the side of the posts when scrolling down like the demo site has. Is this not possible? https://imgur.com/a/3u9Tbav

Thanks for all of your help, Ben. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help and respond to me.

    Thanks,
    Justin

    Hi Justin

When I click on the menu/page options, my posts are lacking the tag (such as news, review, etc.) and the post date looks different. I’m not seeing any options for changing those, and I made sure that my posts were tagged with review. Here’s some pictures to help: https://imgur.com/a/rQbqjfs

The little blue box comes from the post categories. Currently on the homepage it says the posts are ‘uncategorized’ (the links in the blue box). If you add them to a new ‘reviews’ category then that will be displayed. In addition, WordPress creates category pages for you.

For example you can see the uncategorized listing here: https://daijouboo.com/category/uncategorized/ – you can then link to the post category in your menu and it will fill up automatically as you add more posts.

Also, I know that you said the dynamic page is entirely dynamic and I can’t edit it, but I was hoping to get the search and archive feature on the side of the posts when scrolling down like the demo site has. Is this not possible? https://imgur.com/a/3u9Tbav

Visit your site, and press the ‘My sites’ button in the top left. On the admin page click the ‘customize’ button. You can then add widgets to different areas on the site. The ‘sidebar widgets’ are where I added the search, archives, and categories widgets.

You can also add widgets to the footer, and to the menu widgets area.

    Cheers – Ben
