I am trying to feature on my front page only a certain category….I can’t seem to get this done. A Box at the bottom of this settings page says Exclude the following Category IDs: seperated by comas? Are you talking about the titles or is there some ID number located someplace

For the front page, use the widget we have for featured posts and pick your category in the widget settings.
