Disable Hard Crop on Featured Posts
I observed all featured post images have a hard crop set to true, they all have the crop=1 at the end of their links. I wish to disable that since the pictures are get cropped top and bottom and also the quality is diminished, they get blurred. If I remove the crop with the web inspector tools of the browser, I can see the image looks fine, a lot better without that crop. The height of the images is just so small, why exactly would you need it that way ? My images would have maybe 10 px up and down and they would look a lot better.
I cannot use Css since the image gets cropped before the rules apply.
Please help !
The blog I need help with is retetecugust.com.
the crop=1 parameter which you’re referring to is added by a script on WordPress.com. We’ve forwarded your request and you should get assistance soon. Maybe there is an option on WordPress.com to handle this differently.
However, it’s worth mentioning that even without the script images will be cropped by WordPress whenever necessary in order to provide thumbnails with suitable image dimensions.
I am ok with the box cropping WordPress usually does for thumbnails, what I don’t like is the hard crop of this theme. I hope you can get something fixed about this.
Hard cropping is necessary in order to ensure uniform image dimensions because people usually upload all kinds of different image sizes and formats. You can’t change this as you can’t modify PHP code on WordPress.com.
But as mentioned, the images on your site currently are being cropped by a script on WordPress.com. Maybe there is a way to change it as you like through an option. You should get a reply soon, thanks for your patience.
Thank you, I hope I will get a reply soon.
Hi there retetecugust,

As the author mentioned, PHP access is required in order to disable the hard crop.
In terms of image quality, the same resizing happens on the theme demo as it does for anyone using it on WordPress.com. When possible I’d recommend using large images for better results. You can see from the theme demo that most of the featured images are about 1280 pixels wide. Starting with a higher resolution tends to work a bit better when the theme has to resize the image.
Full control over image resizing/crop/quality would only be available when using a self-hosted site with the WordPress.org software.
