Crop coordinates for featured image?

  • When you upload a 602×200 image for the slider, it crops the image for the actual post. I know you can’t control the cropping, but what are the coordinates for the cropping? I’l like to design graphics/photos that will crop well.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Unfortunately, WordPress automatically crops the photo; therefore, it’s not possible to control the cropped image.

    I’m sorry this isn’t the answer you’re after :(

  • It must crop the same way each time though, right? I would imagine that it crops to a certain size based on a fixed set of coordinates.

I’ve played around a bit and it looks like the the center 240 pixel carry over, and then the whole thing is scaled to 175×150.

  • Hi again :)

To be honest, I’m not sure if WordPress crops the image the same way each time. I’m going to forward this question to Andy, our developer, as he might be able to provide you with a more helpful response.

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Thanks for looking into it more closely!

  • Hey there,

WordPress should be cropping the same way each time, as far as I know. When hard-cropping (as it does in Traction), the cropping should simply be in the center of the image. So, if you have a 600 x 400 image that is cropped to 100 x 100, it *should* be using the exact middle 100px square, if that makes any sense.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you’re seeing different behavior. Thanks!
