Comment Moderation

    Hello,

Currently, I have it so that every comment on my site requires moderation before it’s posted live. But when someone leaves a comment, there’s nothing that tells the user that their comment is waiting for moderation. Is there a way to turn this notice on?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is fanslashfic.com.

Hmmm…to add to the confusion, I just tested it several times and managed to get the moderation notice to show up about 20% of the time.

    I’ve tried:
    incognito mode with non-wordpress email
chrome browser (not logged in as me) with non-wordpress email
    safari browser with non-wordpress email
    chrome browser with wordpress email

Once I leave the message, it takes me to a page url with the following attached to it: /comment-page-1/#comment-44

The number changes each time. Any ideas?

The next time a comment is held for moderation but the commenter doen’t see the “this comment is being held for moderation,” on the post could you provide a link to that post so I can have a look and see what might be going on?

Sure! I just submitted a comment to: http://fanslashfic.com/2015/11/03/iron-man-living-with-a-fusion-reactor-in-your-chest/

Screenshot of the fields I filled in before I hit “Post Comment”:

After I hit the button, the screen reloaded to this url: http://fanslashfic.com/2015/11/03/iron-man-living-with-a-fusion-reactor-in-your-chest/comment-page-1/#comment-48

With the comment area looking like this:

(There’s nothing about the comment being moderated. The only other approved comment on there was from someone else.)

And here is a screenshot of my dashboard asking me to approve comment: http://i.imgur.com/5CoVdMi.png

Thank you for that test post and screenshots, very helpful. I was able to replicate this on my test site as well. It looks like something in MH Magazine’s custom comment function isn’t quite working as it should. We’ll notify the developer so they can work on getting this fixed up and we’ll keep you posted here.

    Hi Kathryn,

thanks a lot for checking. Are you sure that it isn’t related to an issue on WordPress.com? Because we can’t replicate the issue within a clean WordPress installation (.org) and that’s why we forwarded it to you. There also are no other users reporting anything like this.

We also checked the code and can’t see a reason why the “waiting for moderation” notice wouldn’t be displayed. We also tested it here and it worked fine out of the box: http://i.imgur.com/LGJ9raS.png

However, if you have any clue what the reason for the issue is, please let us know and we’ll fix it right away of course. But at this point we can’t see a reason why the theme would prevent the notice from displaying.

We also just tested on fanslashfic.com and it appears to be working as it should: http://i.imgur.com/XGsM6QP.png

mhthemes – please look out for a Trac ticket and you can discuss this further there with a theme wrangler. Thanks!

Just wanted to follow up and let you know that this doesn’t look like a theme-specific issue as we’ve been able to replicate it in a number of themes. We’ve reported it to our developers and will keep you posted here.
