Changing the colors with CSS / Custom color

I seem to be unable to change the colors in the theme (Pretty Young Thing). Neither by custom color or css.

First, I’d like the background to be white. The custom colors doesn’t show an option for this, but you can upload your own image. So I even tried to upload a blank white background image, but then ended up having these pink borders in between the paragraph / text background and the wider / blog background.

Second, I’d like to change the color of the footer and the background of the widget titles. CSS doesn’t seem to be working (or then I didn’t get it right).

Third, I’m able to remove the heart icons from the post titles (yeah, managed to do that at least!) but how can I upload an icon of my own? I’ve seen these personalized icons in other blogs using the same theme.

Perhaps if you could advice me on the CSS?

Oh and by the way, my blog is still private as it’s quite new and still under construction. But if you can see it you may.

The blog I need help with is:
