Changing link appearance

I would like to change the color of links (and visited links) throughout my site (http://monicascicom.wordpress.com/). I am using the Connect theme, and the links are not different in any way from the rest of the text, until you hover over the link. I would like the links to be blue and visited links to be purple. I currently have a free plan for my blog. Can I accomplish the color change by purchasing a personal plan, or must I be able to edit the CSS in order to do this (meaning I need the premium plan)? Thank you for your help.

The blog I need help with is: monicascicom.wordpress.com

    Hello!

You should be able to get the same colored links as we have in the demo I believe on the free plan. Can you confirm if you’re seeing any color options under Customize > Colors & Background? You should be able to select a different palette to use the theme colors. If you’re not seeing these options, you might need to upgrade your plan to the Premium Plan to use the color options or Custom CSS.

Let me know if you would like more help using these options.

    Thanks!

Thank you for responding so quickly! I don’t see any color options at all in the “customizing colors & backgrounds” area. The only palette is all white. I grabbed a screen cap but don’t know if I can post it here. It seems strange that I wouldn’t have options without messing with the CSS but I am no expert.

Can you submit the screengrab as a URL from dropbox or something similar? This way I can take a further look for you. I believe that you should at least have access to the default theme palette which has an orange color set for links. Depending on the screenshot I might need to confirm this with the WP.com team to be certain what access you should have.

    Thanks!

Yes, here is my screengrab. Does that work?

    Hi!

That worked thanks. I’m pretty sure you should be able to click on that palette and then edit some of the colors individually. Have you tried this? If not, I’m going to have WordPress.com staff look into this for you as they’ll have access to the back details of your account and site.

    Thanks!

Nope, no other options come up when I click on the palette; it just turns my background white. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for clarifying. I’ve tagged WP.com staff to this thread to take a further look and provide additional information on this. They’ll follow up with you here.

In the meantime feel free to start a new thread if there’s anything else I can help with. :)

    Cheers,

    Rebecca

Hi there, Connect comes with one free featured colour palette, which is all-white.

To change link colours separately, you’ll need custom CSS, which comes with the Premium or Business plan.

thank you, kathryn. all white isn’t much of a palette, really. ;) does the personal plan include additional color palettes? or is custom CSS really my only choice?

    Hi Monica,

In this case it looks like there are no free colour palettes other than the included white palette, so the Premium or Business plan would be the way to go.

    Thanks!

Most newer themes come with up to six featured coloured palettes, but Connect is a bit older and only has one. Featured palettes also don’t let us set different colours for visited and unvisited links, so custom CSS is really the route you’d need to take here.

does the personal plan include additional color palettes?

No, only Premium and Business include more palettes and custom CSS.

Hope this helps explain things a little more!
